Back To School Newsletter 2023

Welcome Back! A Message from Mrs. Martin, Principal

Hello Woodland Park Academy Families!

Welcome to the 23-24 school year! We are so excited to have students back! At Woodland Park Academy we are partnering with families and providing diverse educational opportunities to inspire our children to change the world! As a community it is vital that we are all working together; parents, students, and staff, to accomplish this mission.

Woodland Park is happy to welcome you back to some new and exciting things! We are so lucky to welcome a few new staff members to our amazing team! Check out their profiles below!

All parents must fill out the online registration in their ParentVue account in Synergy. Check out the directions below. The ParentVue app will allow you to access your child's attendance, grades, and schedule, and will also keep the most important information about your child updated.

We look forward to seeing you at the Pop In for Popsicles event on August 23 between 5-7 pm. Plan to "pop in" to see your child's classroom and meet the teacher. Then head to the gym for a popsicle, dress code swap, and visit some tables to learn more about WPA and our community partners. A SPECIAL GIFT WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS THAT ATTEND!

Once you finish reading this, please do 1 important thing; Register your child in ParentVUE! Registrations must be completed before the first day of school.

I look forward to partnering with you this school year. We are going to have an amazing year!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Martin

Bus Parent Pro Tip

There are times when the bus is running behind or ahead of schedule. While they do their very best to run the route on schedule, things happen. Safety is the number one priority.

If your child is riding the MTA bus, download "LIFE360" to their phone so you know where they are and how close they are to their stop.

Please add MTA's dispatch number to your phone 810-695-8917. This number is helpful to have if your child's bus is running behind. The operator will need to know your student's bus route and stop name to assist you.

No Cell Phone Policy

Phones have become an integral part of everyday life. Some of us may be considered "addicted" to our phones! Social media issues can impact the mental and social well-being and order of the school day. At Woodland Park, our teachers will be offering in-person, excellent instruction and it is important that all students are engaged during the time they are in school.

Students may bring their phones to school however, they must be powered down throughout the school day (7:45-3:15 pm). Please support this policy by calling the office if you need to communicate with your child or get a message to them. Students not following this policy will be required to turn phones into the office daily among other consequences.

Middle School Backpacks

Backpacks ARE allowed and encouraged. However, students will not be carrying backpacks from one class to another. Students that travel between classes will leave their backpacks in their lockers and take their class material from one class to another. Teachers will ensure they have their belongings when leaving class.

First Week of School

  • Bring your class school supplies.
  • Wear dress code.
  • Bring your positive attitude! Come to class prepared and ready to learn!
  • Make sure you know how you are getting home.

Are you riding a bus? Which bus? Which stop?

Are you getting picked up in a car? Who is picking me up?

First Day of School Jitters...

For the safety of our students, parents will be allowed to walk their children to the front door. A kind and loving staff member will be happy to escort your child to class during their first days of class.

ALL students enrolled at our school can receive (1) healthy breakfast and (1) lunch at NO CHARGE each day.

In place of the Free and Reduced-Price Meal Application, we still need your household to fill out and sign the Education Benefits Form. This report is critical in determining the amount of money that our school receives from a variety of State and Federal supplemental programs.

CMU List of Uses Policy and Opt-Out Form

Even though CMU does not maintain student K-12 educational records or student directory information for any student attending our partner schools, state law requires us to prepare a list and disclose to you that list of uses or instances that we may commonly disclose a student’s directory information. In addition, the law gives you the opportunity to elect not to have your student’s directory information disclosed for one or more of these uses or instances. Any parent or legal guardian (or student if 18 years of age or an emancipated minor) is also entitled to separately refuse disclosure of student directory information noted above by sending the opt-out form to the Center’s office as directed at the bottom of the form by September 15.
