WOW! THANK YOU THIRD GRADE MOMS!
Thank you very much for taking the time out of your day to volunteer, donate supplies, set up, and decorate the Third Grade hallway and classes for Independence Day! We appreciate you! The students have loved celebrating their country this week!
This week in Singapore Math!
After the long weekend, we will return to school and Singapore Math! For this week we will be reviewing Chapters 1-5. This Cumulative Review is in preparation for our first Benchmark Exam, which will be administered at the end of September. Students will review knowledge gained from Chapters 1-5 through in class Enrichment and Extra Practice in order for deeper understanding of concepts. Wednesday we will review Chapter 1, Thursday we will review Chapter 2, and Friday we will review Chapter 3 and 4. Along with this Newsletter you will receive Smarty Pants Review problems for the Benchmark Exam. Please use this resource (optional) as additional support to prepare your child for the Exam.
This week in Literacy by Design!
After the long weekend we are back to Literacy by Design! The comprehension strategy for this week is Infer: Using your own ideas to help you understand what you read. For Grammar students will learn different types of sentences, including Declarative and Interrogative. The vocabulary for this week includes lens, function, focus, demonstrate and filament.
This week in Science!
Students will continue the Motion and Matter Investigation: Magnetic Forces. Students will use data to predict how far the magnetic field extends around two magnets. Also, using Science A-Z, students will write a paragraph to support their opinion on the focus question: Would magnets be useful for helping students pick up trash on Help the "Planet Day?" Then the students will engage in an oral discussion to support their opinions.
