Dear Calvin Park Parents and Guardians,

Although Thanksgiving this year may have looked different than past celebrations, we hope that you found something to be thankful for this weekend, even if it was not what you might have expected. This year, we are thankful for our families, friends, students and staff. We are grateful for the variety of fall colours -- they are stunning this year! We are also feeling particularly thankful for our successful first month back at school. This success has been a team effort, with each member of the Calvin Park community playing a role in keeping us all safe, healthy and learning at school. Thank you for your continuing support during this challenging year. Thank you for being diligent with physical distancing, small social bubbles, handwashing, mask wearing, and daily screening at home.

An important reminder to families that immunizations for Grade 7 students will not take place at the school this year so please make an appointment for your child's immunizations at KFLA Public Health (information and links below). In addition, students who were in Grade 7 at Calvin Park last year missed their second immunization at school in the spring, so please make an appointment at KFLA Public Health if you haven't completed your child's second immunization through your family doctor.

We hope that you enjoyed the long weekend!

Please take care of each other and stay well,

Mrs. Elizabeth Suriyuth, Principal

Ms. Wilma Pettingill, Vice-Principal

WOW! This year, the 40th Anniversary of Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope, our students completed almost 10,000 laps and we raised $1600 in the process! Thank you for your support!

October 29, 30 Gould Lake Visits to our school for 8A, 8B, 7B, 7D

Last week, all students should have brought home a brown manilla envelope, which contained school information, student insurance information, your child's data verification form, and a Freedom of Information consent form. The data verification form needs to be reviewed, marked with necessary changes in student information, and returned to school even if no changes were necessary. As well, the Freedom of Information consent must be signed and returned. We need both of these documents returned to the school as soon as possible to keep our records updated with the most current information for your child. Our school and our Board are using email as the primary means of communication this year and if our records are not updated, you may be missing out on important information. If you did not receive these forms, please ask your child about them and then contact the school if you have any questions.

This year, KFLA Public Health will not be coming in to the school for immunizations. Families need to book appointments at the Health Unit. An email was sent home outlining the new process. More information about immunizations for students who are currently in Grade 7 can be found at this link for KFLA Public Health: Elementary and Secondary School Immunizations

To book an appointment for your child to have their Grade 7 immunizations or for Grade 8 students to catch-up their immunizations that they missed due to school closure last year, please click on this link: Book an Appointment

Families can complete the online consent for immunization prior to their appointment at this link: Grade 7 Immunization Consent Form

Thank you to everyone who joined our School Council Virtual Meeting last week! We had a great turnout! Here is our School Council Executive for 2020-21:

Co-Chairs: Claudine Elvidge, Krystle Holton

Secretary/Treasurer: Sarah Phinney

Our next virtual School Council meeting is November 2nd at 6:00 p.m. We welcome new members and will send out an email prior to our meeting with a request for interest so that we can provide a link to those who would like to attend. The two major areas of focus of our School Council for this year are parent/community engagement and supporting technology purchases for classrooms.

The Calvin Park Online Clothing Store will be open from October 5-23.

Tri-Board Student Transportation has indicated there will likely be more bus delays and cancellations this year due to circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Transportation to and from school is not guaranteed. Families should have a backup plan to transport their student(s) to school, and to arrange child care where required, if their bus is cancelled for any reason and they cannot transport their student to school.

Families should ensure they are signed up to receive direct notifications, either by email, or Tri-Board’s app. Delays and cancellations are also posted to Tri-Board’s Twitter account.
