Writer's Workshop: An Introduction
Teachers and Administrators Grades 3 through 5
Writer’s Workshop centers around student choice and collaboration, making it more authentic and enduring than other approaches to writing instruction. What is actually meant by “writer’s workshop”, and how do you get started?
The Southern Indiana Education is here to help and has organized a day to share the basics. Julie Monetta will introduce the components of the workshop approach, explain why it’s so effective, and provide examples and strategies that will assist teachers who are just beginning or are curious about the workshop journey.
Participants can expect the following:
A breakdown of the steps in a daily workshop session, and examples of what they look like
Explanation of how the writing process works within the writer’s workshop
How to infuse The Six Traits into reading and writing so they support each other in literacy development
How to build rich, quick grammar instruction into the workshop that actually transfers into quality student writing
The use of mentor texts to increase student engagement and high quality writing
Assessment that guides student growth and saves time
Please plan on joining us at the Southern Indiana Education Center on February 22, 2019 for a session designed for all interested educators and leaders in grades 3 through 5.
