Alma DECA Attends Alma Rotary Meeting

“When we are out of school and college there are still opportunities to help the community. The Rotary Club is one of those opportunities and helping the community is everything they do. Hopefully, when I grow up there will be a Rotary Club near me, so I can join and give back to the community,” stated Shivam Raja.

On Wednesday, November 20, 2019, Alma DECA members joined the Alma Rotary Club at their weekly meeting held at the Alma Community Center. The members enjoyed a yummy lunch while visiting with the Rotary membership, then shared their DECA story. Shivam Raja, Sidney Hatley, Michelle Wells, Seth Cole, Elissa Williams, Zoe Taylor, Chloe Lewis, Kaitlyn McAllister, Bella Nutt and Noah Downs shared their experiences focusing on academics, being community oriented and professionally responsible, and becoming experienced leaders. In addition, the members shared stories from the DECA Power Trip from which they had just returned and what it is like to participate in the Arkansas Career Development Conference, the International DECA Career Development Conference and what it is like as an incoming freshman member.

Noah Downs shared, “this was my first time public speaking in public, and it was rough and bumpy, but I picked up a few tips while watching Seth and Elissa speak because they were really comfortable speaking, and I’m going to work to be like that.”

Following the meeting, Alma DECA was presented a donation from the Rotary members to help fund expenses. The donation will be used to defray costs of the students SCDC costs.

Elissa Williams shared, “Meeting with the Rotary Club is always so informative. I enjoyed this meeting because I got to talk with Mr. McGee about how he struggles with delegating work, just like me! He told me “If you don’t delegate work, you’ll die from working too much.” I will always remember that because it’s true!”

Thank you Alma Rotary for the work you do for the Alma community and the school district!
