Monday, 12/9 - Jesse Tree Paragraph and Ornament Due
Students will present their Jesse Tree ornaments and paragraphs to the class this week. Please have your child practice reading their paragraph aloud at home so they are prepared. They will be given a grade for both the ornament and presentation.
We will continue learning about the true meaning of Christmas during Advent and practicing the virtue of purity.
Math
Tuesday, 12/10 - Adding Numbers to 20 Test
Students have been practicing the strategies of making a 10 to add the numbers or using doubles facts to add numbers more quickly. I encourage you to watch the tutorials to help explain since most parents are not familiar with this process. It may be difficult at first, but if mastered, math will be much easier as they move into the upper grades.
Reading/Writing/Grammar
Students will be listening to and comparing different versions of The Mitten. They will practice answering questions in complete sentences as well as retelling the story in the correct sequence with a prop. Please ask them to retell the story to you when they bring it home.
Our grammar lessons will focus on the 4 main parts of speech:
- nouns and the adjectives that describe them (white cloud, tall tree)
- verbs and the “ly” adverbs that describe them (loudly yelled, patiently waiting)
DOL test will be on Thursday, 12/12
Students will only have 2 sample sentences this week. However, they’ll identify nouns, verbs, adjectives, and “ly” adverbs to prepare for the DOL test. Please review these both nights.
