Ribbit Report
Turner Creek Elementary School
January 10, 2020
Has your address changed???
If you have moved and have not yet updated your address with the school, please contact our office. WCPSS requires a current gas, water or electric bill or a lease/settlement statement that has been signed within the last 30 days as a valid proof of a family's residence in Wake County.
Track change requests
If you would like to request a track change for the 2020-21 school year, the timeline for accepting those requests will be from January 3rd – February 3rd. Beginning January 3rd, forms will be available on our website to download, complete and return to our front office. As is normally the case, we will have to adhere to the state guidelines for continued implementation of the class size laws. We may only be able to grant very few requests but we will look at each one and give them consideration.
**Please note that forms for middle school siblings must be completed at the middle school in order for tracks to be coordinated at both schools.
Send us Pictures for the Yearbook
Have you taken some great pictures of your children's in-school activities or field trips? The TCE Yearbook is looking for candid shots of students and staff to include in this year's yearbook. Please send pictures, along with the class name, to: yearbook@tce-pta.org. Please send pictures at a medium or large size so they can be reproduced well. If you have any questions please email drdocherty@aol.com or kathompson@wcpss.net.
Spring Chess Club
As our Fall Chess Club has ended, we are looking ahead to our Spring Chess Club! Chess club is available to students in 1st through 5th grade. Students will learn chess fundamentals and strategies that enhance learning skills and critical thinking. We will build confidence and have the option to compete against other local schools. Novice students and experienced players are encouraged to sign up as we will have two levels.
Chess club, taught by Triangle Chess, will last 12 weeks. 1st-2nd grades will be every Tuesday morning at 8:10am starting January 28 and 3rd-5th grades will be every Thursday morning at 8:10am starting January 30. A fee of $110 can be paid to Triangle Chess. Checks are accepted and can be made out to Triangle Chess Club.

Jump Rope for Heart
Turner Creek Elementary will be participating in the American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge. The donations that are received will be used by the American Heart Association for research and educational programs to save lives from heart disease and stroke! Raising contributions is voluntary. All students will participate in a special jump rope day during a regular PE class time in February.
Family and friends are welcome to support your child’s participation by making contributions. Please convert all cash to a check(s) payable to the American Heart Association. You can also build a website and email family and friends for donations. The information to do this is on the collection envelope. Don’t forget to ask donors if their employers have matching gift programs. This is an easy way to increase the contributions your child collects.
Contribution envelopes must be returned to Mr. Whilden by Friday, February 21 for all tracks.

PTA Advocacy Committee
Hundreds of Wake County students were caught with e-cigarettes during the 2018-19 school year, resulting in more than a 1,000 percent increase in violations since the 2016-17 school year. Vaping is something the Wake County PTA Council is addressing via Advocacy efforts. Together we can influence policy and address this public health crisis. More information can be found in this news article from early December, which can be viewed online or download a PDF copy:

Box Tops and Tyson A+ Labels
Breaking news! No more clipping!! Traditional Box Tops clips are being phased out of production but may continue to be found on many products throughout the store. You can still clip these and send them to school. Just download the new Box Tops mobile app. Buy Box Tops products….Scan your receipt….Earn cash for Turner Creek! A picture of the new label is pictured to the left. We’ve earned $40 via the app since it was announced in June.
Great Job Turner Creek! We collected $497 in Box Tops since March! The next round of Box Tops will be mailed off at the end of February 2020. Please make sure they have valid dates (dated 3/1/2020 and beyond). If the Box Top is expired, we have to throw them away! The Box Tops collection bin is in the TCE lobby across from the main office. Box Tops are each worth 10¢ and they quickly add up to real cash for our school. Here is a link showing participating Box Tops products.
Clip Tyson Project A+ labels from participating Tyson® product packages and send them to school with your child. We’ll collect the labels and send them to Tyson Foods, and Tyson Foods will send our school a check. Each label is worth 24¢!
Please drop your Tyson Project A+ labels in the Box Tops collection bin in the TCE lobby. Here is a link for a list of participating products.

Help TCE PTA earn $100
Even if you have linked your Harris Teeter VIC card to our school in the past, you must re-link it each summer for the school to earn money when you shop at Harris Teeter. Last year, we raised nearly $600 simply by our families linking their VIC cards to TCE.
For detailed instructions on how to link-up, please visit
Fundraising while Shopping - Turner Creek Elementary - PTA
This year we are hoping to surpass our past income from these programs and use these funds to support our school. Every time you patronize one of the online or local businesses listed below TCE PTA benefits by receiving a monetary donation!
