Wave Types and Movement

A few wave types
Kelvin Wave
They are high and wide waves, warmer than the surrounding water.
Swell Wave
Are made up of a number of waves of different lengths superimposed on each other. They are straight and long, powerful, and travel great distance.
Breaking Wave
Formed when the wave collapses on top of itself.
Circular wave movement
When wave energy passes through water, the water moves in a circular motion. Energy passes from left to right. But the water itself stays in the same general location.
Swell Wave Dissapation
The of swell energy is much stronger for short waves, which is why swells from distant storms are only long waves.
Kelvin Wave
It is an extremely long oceanic wave the goes eastward towards South america.
Breaking Wave
A breaking wave is a wave that when it reaches it maximum level it causes large amounts of wave energy to occur.
