DMS Family,
Happy Friday, May 1st 2020!
It is going to be a beautiful weekend!
I hope you are able to get out there and enjoy this weather!
Can you believe we only have 6 days of e-learning left?
Our students, parents and teachers have done a tremendous job keeping our kiddos learning!
I know here at DMS, we miss our kiddos so very much! On Thursday May 7th we plan to do a vehicle-parade through some of our neighborhoods. I know several of our MSD Decatur Schools are planning to have staff members drive through neighborhoods for a vehicle-parade to let our Decatur families know how much we miss them! Many of these will happen next week. DMS staff members will head to several neighborhoods on Thursday, May 7th from 11:30AM - NOON. We anticipate a lot of excitement, and it is very important that we are mindful of keeping everyone safe while we do this. Teachers will be driving cautiously and very slow. Make sure you and your students support social distancing throughout the entire parade. We cannot wait to see you!
We are currently preparing a plan for how we will return student’s locker items to families. As you know, our buildings are still closed to the public. We are organizing how and when we will have families come to DMS while still supporting social distancing. Look for more information next week as we finalize these details.
If you are still interested in ordering a Yearbook for the for the 2019/20 school year you may do so online for just $30. See the link below to order.
Parents and students, we miss you!
You are doing an awesome job!
Keep up the great work as we finish out this school year, and we cannot wait to see you soon!
Together We ARE Decatur Proud!

virtual care
Virtual Care is an offering through Community Health Network for DMS and DTSE students. The visit is free of charge. How does it work? Students can virtually visit a nurse practitioner while at school. Sometimes medication is prescribed or advice on what over the counter medication is needed to provide relief for the student. Whatever it is, the goal is to get the student back to their healthy state so that they can return back to school as quickly as possible. The hours are 7:30am to 4:00pm. If you would like to request a virtual visit for your student, please call: (463) 201-7848 and an appointment will be arranged for your student to be seen during the school day. Some examples of what our practitioners can help with are: runny nose, nasal congestion, sinus pressure, headaches, body pain, cough, chest congestion, sore throat, ear pain, rash, red eyes and abdominal complaints to name a few.

Indianapolis Public Library
Decatur Township has entered into a partnership with the Indianapolis Public Library. Through this partnership, every year we provide the library with a list of our students, and they match the list with their database of patrons. If a student does not currently have a library card, they will be issued one. This program has been very successful in our schools and in other districts in Indianapolis.
The special card students receive will give them access to all of the library’s digital materials, such as databases of magazine and journal articles, downloadable ebooks, emagazines and audio books. In addition, it will give them very limited access to physical items, such as regular books. Of course, you can change this to a full access card by visiting your library. This is an outstanding opportunity for your student. If for any reason you do not wish for your child to participate, please contact our school office for paperwork to opt out.
Any questions or concerns about the program can be directed to Lynn Hodgkin, Elementary Media Coordinator, at 317-856-2221.
