Garrison-Jones Families,

I hope that everyone is having a great start to the 2023 year!

Please review the information below in the January/February Parent Newsletter. We have a lot of exciting events occurring over the next couple of months.

I continue to be grateful for our parents that support our PTA and student events. Our PTA has worked closely with the school this year to provide student resources and tools to enrich learning.

Our media center is almost complete in its renovation. The district has supported us by repainting, installing new flooring, purchasing new tables/chairs, bookshelves and soft-seating furniture, along with new blinds and new decor. The PTA has funded a large mural that was painted by a local artist on one of the walls in the library. Additionally, the PTA has purchased VR glasses for our students and a portable lego wall to extend STEM learning and inspire creativity! I look forward to inviting parents into this newly renovated area of the school upon its completion! We anticipate it will be complete within the next month.

Our students are continuing to showing learning growth after taking the December Progress Monitoring assessments! As they continue to learn over the remainder of the school year, please continue to support them with strong daily attendance, encouraging them to be motivated and excited to learn at school, and providing healthy sleep and eating routines at home. Thank you to all our parents for being a supportive and integral piece of your child's learning experience!

¡Espero que todos estén teniendo un gran comienzo para el año 2023!

Por favor, revise la información a continuación en el Boletín para padres de enero/febrero.

Tenemos muchos eventos emocionantes que ocurrirán en los próximos meses. Sigo estando agradecido por nuestros padres que apoyan nuestra PTA y los eventos estudiantiles. Nuestro PTA ha trabajado en estrecha colaboración con la escuela este año para proporcionar recursos y herramientas a los estudiantes para enriquecer el aprendizaje.

Nuestro centro de medios está casi completo en su renovación. El distrito nos ha apoyado repintando, instalando nuevos pisos, comprando nuevas mesas/sillas, estanterías y muebles de asiento blando, junto con nuevas persianas y nueva decoración. La PTA ha financiado un gran mural que fue pintado por un artista local en una de las paredes de la biblioteca. Además, la PTA ha comprado anteojos de realidad virtual para nuestros estudiantes y una pared de lego portátil para ampliar el aprendizaje de STEM e inspirar la creatividad. ¡Espero invitar a los padres a esta área recientemente renovada de la escuela una vez que esté terminada! Anticipamos que estará completo dentro del próximo mes.

¡Nuestros estudiantes continúan mostrando un crecimiento en el aprendizaje después de tomar las evaluaciones de Monitoreo de Progreso de diciembre! A medida que continúen aprendiendo durante el resto del año escolar, continúe apoyándolos con una fuerte asistencia diaria, alentándolos a estar motivados y entusiasmados por aprender en la escuela y brindándoles rutinas saludables de sueño y alimentación en el hogar. ¡Gracias a todos nuestros padres por ser una pieza integral y de apoyo en la experiencia de aprendizaje de su hijo!

As a PBIS school, we strive to hold high expectations of behavior for all our students! Students have the opportunity to earn PRIDE passes each day for showing their Garrison-Jones PRIDE (Participate Safely, Restore Relationships, Interact with Respect, Do Your Best, Enjoy Everyone's Success). Students collect these tickets to cash them in during our monthly traveling PRIDE store OR during grade level quarterly activities. Our PRIDE store is run by school volunteers. Volunteers take a mobile store to classrooms once a month on Roundup days and students get to use their PRIDE passes to "shop" for items. Students can also use their passes to choose a unique, fun activity to participate in with others from their grade level. Continue to remind your child to show their PRIDE Expectations at school and outside of school!

¡Como escuela PBIS, nos esforzamos por mantener altas expectativas de comportamiento para todos nuestros estudiantes! Los estudiantes tienen la oportunidad de ganar pases PRIDE todos los días por mostrar su ORGULLO Garrison-Jones (participar de manera segura, restaurar relaciones, interactuar con respeto, hacer lo mejor que pueda, disfrutar del éxito de todos). Los estudiantes recogen estos boletos para canjearlos durante nuestra tienda PRIDE itinerante mensual O durante las actividades trimestrales de nivel de grado. Nuestra tienda PRIDE está a cargo de voluntarios escolares. Los voluntarios llevan una tienda móvil a las aulas una vez al mes en los días de Roundup y los estudiantes pueden usar sus pases PRIDE para "comprar" artículos. Part of AVID Elementary is giving our scholars a chance to explore different colleges and careers. Each week, one of our staff shares their educational experiences on the morning announcements. Ask your scholar what college or career path they learned about each week.

Another part of AVID Elementary is celebrating student success. One way we celebrate students is with an AVID cheer. Each month the scholars will learn a new cheer and practice it throughout the month. Ask your scholar what this month’s AVID cheer is.

Parte de AVID Elementary es darles a nuestros estudiantes la oportunidad de explorar diferentes universidades y carreras. Cada semana, un miembro de nuestro personal comparte sus experiencias educativas en los anuncios de la mañana. Pregúntele a su estudiante sobre qué universidad o carrera aprendió cada semana.

31- Round Up

This year, 4 of our students attended a district-wide Student Leadership Summit! With the guidance of Mrs. Valentino, 5th grade dual language teacher, students met with other students across the district and district staff, including our Superintendent Mr. Hendrick, to "Listen, Learn and Lead." The four Garrison-Jones student representatives participated in team-building and teamwork activities with students and staff across the district. They also worked on building a Listen and Learn activity that they will facilitate at our school. Congratulations to those students who were invited to participate and we look forward to having them share with our staff and students what they learned from this inspiring experience!

¡Este año, 4 de nuestros estudiantes asistieron a una Cumbre de Liderazgo Estudiantil en todo el distrito! Con la orientación de la Sra. Valentino, maestra de lenguaje dual de 5.º grado, los estudiantes se reunieron con otros estudiantes del distrito y el personal del distrito, incluido nuestro superintendente, el Sr. Hendrick, para "escuchar, aprender y liderar". Garrison-Jones Pioneers are celebrating Black History Month by learning about black men and women who have made contributions to our American History and Culture. Look for information in your child's backpack with the BINGO Board! Choose activities on the BINGO Board and learn more about Black History with your family. Return your board with a BINGO (5 across, diagonal or down) to school by March 1st to be entered in a drawing for prizes! Do the activities for another BINGO and be entered in the drawing twice! Have fun learning!!

Garrison-Jones Pioneers está celebrando el Mes de la Historia Negra aprendiendo sobre hombres y mujeres negros que han hecho contribuciones a nuestra Historia y Cultura Estadounidense. ¡Busque información en la mochila de su hijo con el tablero de BINGO! Elija actividades en el tablero de BINGO y aprenda más sobre Black History con su familia. ¡Devuelva su tablero con un BINGO (5 a lo largo, en diagonal o hacia abajo) a la escuela antes del 1 de marzo para participar en un sorteo de premios! ¡Haz las actividades para otro BINGO y participa en el sorteo dos veces! ¡¡Diviértete aprendiendo!!

Happy February! We have one of our favorite events this month, Dance With Your Daughter. This event is on February 17th, 5:30-8, right here at Garrison Jones in the Cafeteria. Tickets will be $10/person. We will do pre-sales starting on 2/15-2/17 each morning before school in front of the office. Tickets will also be available at the door, so don’t worry if you can’t make the pre-sales. There will be a DJ, photobooth, snacks and drinks!
