Austin's Historic Victory Grill - 1104 East 11th Street

Austin’s original Victory Grill was a stop on the Chitlin Circuit, a network of African American juke joints that brought big-name blues and R&B performers to Austin in the 1940s. Over the years, Victory Grill provided a stage for legendary talents like Billie Holiday, James Brown, Ike and Tina Turner, Etta James and Chuck Berry. Today, the historic club is home to The Rolling Rooster, a Southern comfort food restaurant known for its chicken and waffles that pays homage to the venue’s legacy by showcasing blues performances.

Principal's Message to Hornet Families for the week of February 14th, 2021

Hello fantastic family members,

Last week was another great week of teaching and learning. Our excellent educators had a District of Innovation Day on Friday, which gave our staff an opportunity to hear from our 6th grade student council members about ways to make virtual learning more engaging. The teachers had opportunities to share best practices and skills that are working for them in the classroom and online concurrently. I even took the opportunity to model our most recently acquired teaching tool, Pear deck. Pear deck is an application that makes power points interactive which also make virtual learning and on campus learning more engaging.

This week we look forward to A Professional Development Day for the staff where teachers will have opportunities connect with each other, create intervention plans to close achievement gaps, and review incoming magnet applications. We will also host a Campus Improvement Plan Update Monday night at 6pm. Tuesday - Friday scholars will have opportunities to review the course books and make choices for their desired courses next year. Thursday we will meet with our campus leadership to strategize ways to continue creating a great learning experience for our scholars. Saturday we will have our February Service Day on campus with the Kealing Gardens. Last time my family and I had a chance to plant our first tree and I cant wait to see it 10 -15 years from now. As always we are also looking forward to another great week of teaching and learning on our campus.

Kealing Yearbook Scholarships

The Kealing Yearbook Staff is committed to documenting the Kealing middle school experience each year through our award winning yearbook. We are also committed to ensuring that every student who might not be able to afford a yearbook has access to one through our scholarship program. This year's yearbook theme is "We're Kealing It", in other words we want to highlight the various way students and staff are persevering and even thriving during this challenging academic year.

Your generosity will be noted in each of the 650 copies that we produce. Further, as a nationally recognized publication, our book is often seen across the country at conventions and as a publisher’s sample, which may further its reach.

Can you help me raise money for Kealing Middle School Yearbook 2021Scholarship Fund? Together we can keep Kealing It!
