December 17th - 21st
Highlights from our week:
Shared Reading - This week First Grade completed a unit on comparing and contrasting different stories about the Gingerbread Man. Students compared main characters, setting, problem, solution, beginning and ending words, and repeating phrases. Students did very well when describing differences between The Gingerbread Man, The Gingerbread Girl, and the Gingerbread Baby.
Writing - Student completed a short writing task about "How to Catch a Gingerbread Man" along with practicing their spelling words for the week. Students also completed a simile project including a photo of them that was put in the hallway. Stop by to see their creative faces!
Science - Our class began a short unit about the signs of winter. This week we learned about Snow and winter weather. This unit will continue after the break.
Math - Our focus for this week was on numbers and their placement on the number line. Students worked together to organize numbers on a string of yarn and to determine where numbers could and could not go. We will continue working with the number line as we complete Unit 4.
