Characterization
The author characterizes Nicholas Flamel by describing him in detail. He is described as average build and height, and his eyes were pale with little to no color. He is also described with black hair, had stubble on his chin, and had a cheap digital watch on his arm.(This gives you a good mental picture of Nicholas)
Dee was talking to Josh about Nicholas' personality. He described him as a liar and a deceiver. He also called him a manipulator and said that he never tells the whole truth. (This gives you a good insight into what Nicholas' personality is.)
Theme
The theme in the book, The Alchemyst, the theme is, no matter what happens in life, you will pull through.
This is show when Nicholas, Josh, and Sophie survive the attack on the bookshop and the clay men set out to capture them.
They all also escape another attack set out by Dee. This attack was a lot bigger and they still make it out.
Figurative Language
The letters shifted on the page like tiny beetles. (This shows that the book, The Codex, is a very mysterious book)
A slight movement of her shoulders sent a rainbow of light down her robe. (This gives you a image of Hekate's robe.)
Dialogue
This passage is when a main character, Perenelle, used Sophie to speak to Nicholas and Scathach to move South. This is important to the story because it hints at events that unfold to the climax.
