The All New AVL
Alabama Virtual Library (AVL)
I am sure you remember years ago when the AVL was first introduced. Fast forward several years later and funding was cut so it lost its luster. Well now, it is BACK! Last year they surveyed the state asking for recommendations, and they did their best to accommodate everyone. I am most excited about the addition of PebbleGo to the Elementary Resources as this was lacking the most. PebbleGo is a database designed to help teach elementary students research skills. There are many other resources applicable for both elementary and middle school students. Check them out by following the instructions below.
2. Click on Student Resources
3. Click on the grade level that is applicable to you!
Why I love it?
Several of the databases have all of the lessons and everything you need. For example, PebbleGo will give you the lesson, the graphic organizers, and the assessment piece.
Britannica Elementary and Britannica Middle School (under the educators tab) will give you lessons and standards broken down by subject and grade level.
AVL Databases
Research as a part of CCRS
Research skills and projects are a major part of CCRS. I highly encourage you to use the AVL in your teaching. Get students researching, walk them through the steps of finding information, and evaluating sources. Thanks to the newest upgrades to AVL ALL students can be successful.
