Megan completed her student teaching at Northside when she was in college. That was 2.5 years ago. She has been an official part of our Northside Staff for 1.5 years. Her favorite thing about working at Northside is the constant support and encouragement she gets from our community of teachers.
Why does Megan enjoy teaching 5th grade? I love being a fifth grade teacher because you are able to really connect and have thought-provoking conversations with students. I love the way they question everything, and I love watching them communicate with each other during class discussions. Even though they are the "big kids", it is really fun to see them get excited about learning when we do an interactive activity.
Michele Lofton
Michele is one of our fifth grade teachers. She is originally from Warner Robins, GA, and she attended Auburn University. Michele is married to Adam, and they have 3 daughters. Olivia works for the Federal Reserve in San Francisco, CA. Elisabeth is a Sophomore at The University of Georgia, and Emily is a Freshman at UCLA in California. her coworkers are like a family. She feels support from everyone.
Colette Peaks - Instructional Coach
Colette enjoys exercising, reading, and spending time with her family.
Colette's favorite thing about Northside is its supportive environment.
Why does Colette enjoy being Northside's Instructional Coach? I am thoroughly enjoying my position as Northside's Instructional Coach this year. I feel like I get the best of both worlds! I am able to interact with all of the students in the school while also supporting our wonderful teachers. I look forward to sharing information on instructional strategies that benefits all of our students and staff here at Northside. Northside is the best side!
Gifted Program
Laura Crymes
Laura enjoys walking and reading.
Laura has been a teacher at Northside for 11 years. She taught Pre-K, 2nd, and 5th grades before becoming Northside's Gifted Teacher. Her favorite things about Northside are the wonderful staff, the great support from administration, and the fabulous families and students.
Why does Laura enjoy teaching the Gifted classes? I love being a gifted teacher for many reasons. I love the variety of information that I can teach. My students keep me on my toes with the vast amount of information that they come to me already knowing. Many times they are much more of an expert in a certain field than me!! I love getting to know children throughout the different grade levels. I feel so fortunate to be able to meet so many different students through the referral and testing process, and I love being able to work with all of the grade level teachers. I feel so lucky to be able to work at Northside because we have the greatest students, staff, and families!
Early Intervention Program
Beth Willems and Dede Rowan
Beth Willems
Beth enjoys reading, going to the lake, and watching her children play soccer.
This is Beth's 23rd year at Northside. Her favorite things about Northside are the people!
Why does Beth enjoy being an EIP teacher? My favorite thing about being an EIP teacher is getting to work with a variety of students in all grade levels. I also love seeing the pride and smiling faces when the students have accomplished goals they have been working on .
Dede Rowan
Dede is one of our Early Intervention Program teachers. She is originally from Fitzgerald, GA. Dede is married to Don, and they have two boys who both were Northside students. Dede, Don, and both of their boys are graduates of The University of Georgia. They all enjoy yelling "Go Dawgs!" and going to the UGA football games. Their family has one dog, Lilly, who is an Irish doodle.
Dede enjoys exercising, watching sports, and reading.
Dede's favorite things about Northside are the staff, the students, and all of their families. She likes that we are a smaller elementary school so we feel like a family.
