Mexico Bulldog Staff Members:

It is so very hard to believe it is mid-October already. This past week, I had the pleasure of once again being a facilitator for The Leadership Academy's Outdoor Leadership Experience state-wide event. Being in that setting with approximately 100 principals and lead teachers from across Missouri once again reminds me how important our work is. And it gives me so much hope for the future of education in Missouri. Our kids are in good hands. Five of our own are part of the Academy this year. Mel Hamm, Liz Robb, Amanda Rowe, Maria Loyd and Jennifer McDole. While none of them were in my small group, I got to see them at some of the large group events and talk to their facilitators. So proud of their participation and the heart they bring to the profession.

The BRIGHTfutures lunch buddy program has well over seventy adults meeting and eating with kids across the district now. I am so excited for the future of our kids with this program. I know two lunches a month are not a magic wand, but they help. And in some ways they help the lunch buddy mentors as much as the kids. I have heard lots of great stories about the lunch meetings. Really good stuff.

I think lunch buddy program meshes well with the challenge I set forth at the opening staff meeting to impact the lives of ten kids this year. Do you have your ten? If not ten, then five, or one? Can you picture them as you read these words? I urge you to join in and be a mentor for one or more students. It is never too late. It is never too little. Make the future bright for our Bulldogs!

Kevin Freeman, Superintendent of Schools
