Colt Round Up
April 28, 2019
"Treasure this day, and treasure yourself. Truly, neither will ever happen again."
- Ray Bradbury (author and poet)
With Appreciation:
- Thanks to Rob for his work managing lots of events, broken AC, overflowing condensation pans, and more! We appreciate you!!!
- Special thanks to Ceci for coordinating our upcoming SBAC assessments - lots of work - but you make it look easy!
- Kristy won a grant this fall to implement flexible seating in her classroom. She unveils the new set up to her students on Monday...stop in and check it out when you have a moment!
- Thanks to Lauretta, Laura Sh., and Darren for serving on our hiring panel this week!
Important Site Updates
- The district nurse has indicated that students can bring their own sunscreen & chapstick to school. Three rules with the sunscreen - no aerosols, they have to be able to apply it without help from staff/peers, and students cannot share their sunscreen with peers.
- The Fire Marshal visited us on the Monday of Spring Break - he checked out the campus perimeter and the office. I don't believe he visited any classrooms. He was supposed to come back, but we haven't heard/seen him. I will do everything I can to ensure he is not on campus visiting classrooms during contract time.
- The AC was fixed on Friday. If the button you your AC is red - that means the program is running. If you turn the dial towards the '-', that means you are lowering the class temp by 3 degrees from the programmed temp. Moving the dial to the '+' means you are warming your room by 3 degrees from the programmed temp. If the light is off, you can push the button once to get the system running. It's finicky, though.
Important Educational Services Updates
We will be hosting interviews on 5/1 for our 2nd grade, 4th grade and 4/5 combo positions. Thanks to Lauretta, Laura Sh., and Darren for serving on the hiring panel. Stay tuned!
FUNDING/PROJECTS UPDATE
I learned today that the district has started allocating funds using the LCAP and Low Performing Student Block Grant. A few things that are in the works that impact us:
- district is hiring an district MTSS coordinator and is investing in an upgrade to Illuminate called EduClimber that allows us to store iReady, intervention, behavior, 504 and SST data (and more maybe) all in one database (AMAZING!)
- we will continue to have iReady (diagnostic & intervention for math and reading) in grades K-5; GEMS will also continue to use it, while TBMS is looking for a different tool
- the district will continue to provide Ready Common Core Reading & Writing materials for grades 4 & 5 per our curriculum maps
- BIG NEWS! the district is purchasing Ready Common Core Math (the paper workbooks and the teacher toolkit, which includes all the assessment materials) for all staff in grades 1-5 as a supplement to Envision; teams will be able to use it in whatever way makes sense; K if you are interested in getting it, too, let me know and that may be an option!
2ND GRADE
I learned that GATE testing is going to be moved to October time frame instead of in the spring - stay tuned

LCES Library of Class Readalouds in the staff room
- we'll be building up bookshelf that you can borrow from - we'll add another book each week or so
- check out this spreadsheet - let's keep it up to date with the library options and resources you can access that support the readaloud/book use in class.
- you are encouraged to borrow books to share with your class. Feel free to add your own books and resources too! Be sure to return items promptly so others can use them.
- This week, we feature:
iReady data Checkin
We'll post new iReady data in the future - our time on task has been a little hampered by pre-break activities and assessment prep.
Gate Duty
Thanks to everyone who has been able to help out with this volunteer duty - it's much appreciated. Some of you cannot help out due to other responsibilities - and that's okay too!
