6th Grade Math:

Scholars investigated the cost per kilogram of nutritional values of the items on the Taco Bell Menu in order to practice dividing by decimals.

Order and Chaos in ASPIRE

Open Work Day - Order or Chaos?

This week we scheduled another open Work Day for the ASPIRE 5 scholars. It was a successful day - many missing assignments are no longer missing. We watched in amazement as a day that could have been very chaotic take on an order of its own. The scholars were able to schedule time for a science lab and to work with partners. It was interesting to watch them in the morning to go around and make appointments with each other. Many even set alarms on their iPads to remind them of the appointments. Many of the scholars had the opportunity to work on some Can Do specials - passion research, coding apps, and creative writing. Most of the scholars have embraced the concept of Open Work Days and like being able to schedule their day and their learning to meet their needs - others are learning how to manage their time. We look forward to another Open Work day next month!

Reflections - Great Opportunity for ASPIRE Scholars

Mr. Boykin and Mrs. Fullhart both HIGHLY encourage our scholars to enter a project for the Reflections Contest. Creativity is such an important skill to nurture and this is the perfect venue with lots of student choice and voice. We look forward to seeing their entries!

Calling all Glenhope Gators! Express Your Artistic Talents! Reflect on a theme. Create an original work. Be recognized. The PTA Reflections program is a wonderful opportunity for our kids to individually choreograph a dance, produce a film, write a poem or story, compose a song, take a picture or create a piece of visual art and tell us their interpretation of the 2015 - 2016 theme: "LET YOUR IMAGINATION FLY". Deadline for entries is Tuesday, November 3, 2015. To view and print out Reflections general rules and specific category participation guidelines, please visit the PTA website at Questions about this year's Reflections program - please contact Stephanie Paul-Shukis @

Still Looking for Volunteers for 5th Grade Activities

5th grade is off to such a great start! The room parents are getting everything in place for a fun 5th-grade year and have already recruited many volunteers to head-up specific events/tasks. Several committee positions are still open and in need of more parent volunteers to help with the graduation and celebration. See below on how to volunteer to help is the sign-up for ALL 5th grade Fall Festival booths. Just FYI - we’re working as a grade-level team this year instead of listing individual class booths in an effort to try to fill all of the time-slots for all of the booths. (Some classes have more parent participation than others.) is the sign-up to help with 5th grade committees for parties, graduation, celebration, etc. We’re especially looking for people to oversee the legacy gift, entertainment (bounce house rentals), and food/beverage because we need to reserve these vendors and/or purchase these items sooner rather than later.

Reading Rewards and the 40 Book Challenge

According to our goal setting conferences with our scholars, the most difficult part of the 40 book Challenge is not reading 40 books - but reading books from many different genres. Encourage your scholar to branch out and read a book from a different genre than their favorite! One of the ways the scholars may keep track of the books they read for the 40 Book Challenge is to use All of our scholars are now enrolled in our class!
