Trojan Update
October 8th, 2018
Welcome to October!
And just like that, it's October. This issue includes some great news from the Engineering, Design and Manufacturing pathway, an update on Academic +, and much more. Hope everyone has a great week!
Reminders about NCAA Night at Casa Grande (tonight, Monday, at 7PM) and PSAT this coming Saturday. Please sign up for the PSAT by Thursday in counseling.
Have a great week!
A+ Update After the First Grading Period
- The suspension rate has dropped from 85 days lost to suspension in 17/18 to 29 days lost to suspension in 18/19
- In terms of grades, the D and F rate has dropped considerably. In 2017/18, there were 450 D's and 349 F's (799 total) or 11% at the end of the first grading period; in 2018-19, there were 416 D's and 298 F's (714 total) or 9%. We should also note that we have almost 80 more students than last year. More students are earning higher grades.
Students are now able to make appointments and see teachers across his or her schedule at A+ time. We will continue to monitor how this period of time is working. At the moment, we are seeing signs that students are using this time effectively. Student feedback has been generally positive.

Girls Golf is now 9-0! Last week, they had a 31 shot victory over American Canyon. Then, they visited Vintage High this past week with another strong performance, led by a 37 from Lilly Catarozoli. On Wednesday, they faced their toughest competition in the visiting Napa team. Every shot counted in a 265-266 final score in favor of the Trojans!
The regular season wraps up this week with a visit to Justin-Siena and Senior Night as they host Sonoma. Go Trojans!

NIMS Accreditation
Good Afternoon Dan,
I hope this email finds you well! I am happy to share that I was able to review the feedback from the recent NIMS evaluation at your facility and everything looks good. So, as of today, renewal of your program's accreditation is official for the next five years! Congratulations!!! This is a major achievement and national benchmark for your program and it definitely calls for a celebration.
Your accreditation is valid from October 05, 2018, until October 05, 2023. The attached document has next steps for the five-year accreditation period and during this time you may use the NIMS logo, which is also attached.
In the coming weeks, an announcement letter will be mailed to college Principal David Stirrat with copies to contacts from education, industry, and government. A plaque will be mailed directly to you and a custom banner will be sent as well. The banner will ship directly from the printer.
A press release will be posted on the NIMS website and a copy emailed to national manufacturing and education media and local/state news outlets. This email will also go out to the many CA contacts subscribed to the NIMS email list.
That is all for now. Congratulations again!!!
Best Regards,
Kristie Marri

Our SROs (school resource officers) have been a great addition to the campuses here and at Casa Grande. In the next issue, they will be providing an update on what they've seen so far. One element that is a concern is vaping among teenagers. The next Trojan Update will include a section on this topic and how parents can intervene.

Science Dept. Partners with Henry Curtis Ford for Fundraiser
Pairing with Desiree Rossetti (parent of Senior Ari Rosetti) from Henry Curtis Ford in Petaluma, the PHS Science Department raised money for science supplies this past Saturday. Each test drive earned the department money and by the end of the afternoon, $1300 had been raised! Funds will be distributed amongst the eight science department members to pay for various scientific consumable and non consumable supplies so that PHS students can continue to have hands on experiences in all of their science classes! This program was such a success the department is hoping to participate again next school year. A big shout out and Thank you to Desiree Rossetti and Henry Curtis Ford in Petaluma!!
