October Focus: Literacy Awareness - Disciplinary Literacy and Digital Literacy
Throughout the 2021-2022 school year, we will be focusing on different aspects of the school library media program. Each month will have a different focus. In October, we will be emphasizing these components of Teaching and Learning:

Networking: Literacy Strategies

English Learners and Library Media
Library media specialists who are interested in engaging English learners are encouraged to join us as we discuss strategies, tips and examples of successful initiatives used in and out of the library setting. In the first session, participants can expect to learn about language acquisition, academic supports for English learners, and examine programs they will then implement in the library. In our second session, we will share the strengths and challenges of our efforts, what we learned about engaging English learners and how libraries across the state can positively impact the growth of ELs.
Session 1: October 12 at 3:30 p.m.
Session 2: December 7 at 3:30 p.m.

Detailed Instructions for Joining Community
1. Go to community.gadoe.org and create an account using your RESA or district issued email. Use your work email as your user name. Your account (district email only) will be approved within 24 hours Monday-Friday.
2. After waiting about 24 hours (you will not receive an approval email), sign in, then create and complete your user profile.
3. Explore the content in the menu to the left of the site. Please be sure to check out the Terms of Service for Community in the menu. All information in Community is subject to Open Records, records retention, and FERPA guidelines.
4. Join the Library Media group and begin collaborating.
