Terra Linda Tiger Tale
November 19, 2020
Principal's Message
Dear Terra Linda Families,
As we head into Thanksgiving Break next week, I hope you are able to find ways to safely connect with family and friends and enjoy time together - even on Zoom or FaceTime. I hope you get an opportunity to appreciate what you are thankful for and share gratitude with those around you. Simply reaching out and sharing gratitude with others can remind us all that there are good things happening around us.
I continue to be thankful for each of you as you support your children in learning from home. Thank you for cheering them on, encouraging them when something is difficult, and helping them to notice that their hard work is helping them learn. You are important teaching partners! Thank you!
Below are a number of articles, resources, and updates. Please take a moment to read through them.
With appreciation,
Christy

Holiday Assistance for Families - Requests due by Friday, 11-20
Terra Linda typically runs a food drive in November and then offers Food Boxes to Terra Linda families who request a box. When families picked up their food box, they also received a grocery gift card from our PTC to help them supplement meals over the long Thanksgiving Break.
This year, due to COVID-19, we have decided not to collect food for redistribution. This is for safety reasons but also because there are many opportunities in our community to get a weekly food box, either by drive through pick up or by delivery. See below for a list. The Terra Linda PTC would still like to support Terra Linda families who need additional items over the Thanksgiving Break.
Winter Break is another time when families might need additional support. Every year, we offer families a delivery of food and gifts for the upcoming Winter Break by connecting families to local agencies. We are offering this opportunity this year, too.
Please call us at Terra Linda at 503.356.2490by 4pm on Friday, November 20 to request assistance for either Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, or both.
Tuesday Grab & Go is for All Grades!
Be sure to login to Destiny this weekend and reserve some library books so you have plenty to read over the Thanksgiving Break! Or fill out this form to request a Book Bundle! Then pick up books this Tuesday during Grab & Go.
Did you know that you can pick up supper meals for your school-aged children along with breakfast and lunch for children ages 1-18? Meals can be picked up every Tuesday and Thursday at Terra Linda from 11-12.
On Tuesday, November 24, we will distribute 3 days of meals to cover Tuesday, Wednesday, and the Monday after Thanksgiving Break. Hope to see you in the line!

Zones of Regulation Cards
We recommend that students keep these sheets accessible in their workspaces as Ms. Britta and Mrs. Edmunds will be using these strategies frequently in their Wellness Wednesday lessons and classroom teachers may also ask students to use them throughout the day. As students continue to learn about the Zones of Regulation, this will be a tool that they also begin to utilize independently. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks on how you might use these strategies at home with your students!

School Picture Update
Season of Giving
Are you looking for ways to support families in the Beaverton School District community? Below are two options:
Opportunity #1:
Sunset Presbyterian Church supports over 500 families in our community, including Terra Linda families, as part of their annual Food and Toy program. This year, due to COVID-19, they have shifted their program a bit. If you would like to support their efforts, they are looking for donations of the most requested toys: STEM/building kits and art kits for boys and girls ages 6- 12. You can drop off kits at Sunset Presbyterian Church or you can bring them to Terra Linda during any Grab & Go on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11-12 or ring the doorbell at our office on school days between 8:00am and 4:00pm. We will then deliver to Sunset Presbyterian.
Deliver donated kits by Thursday, December 3.
Opportunity #2:
This winter, the Communications & Community Involvement Department is collecting donations for grocery gift cards. With many churches and community groups canceling or scaling back their holiday food programs this year due to COVID-19, BSD families are in need. Are you able to help?
Please donate here: https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/student-services/community-resources
- Click on the Donate to the BSD Community Resource Fund button
- Select Beaverton School District as the School
- Select Beaverton Schools Community Resource Fund as the Item
- Write Season of Giving in the Memo
- Type in your desired amount - any amount will be accepted
- Click on Buy
Thank you for supporting our families!

How Parents Support Social and Emotional Learning at Home
Tuesday, November 24, from 5:00-6:00pm Central Time (3:00-4:00pm Pacific Time)
Social and emotional learning in the home means that you can use moments that happen organically to grow your child’s SEL skills while managing your own. Join us for this interactive presentation led by the Together for Students Chicago Initiative, including our partners at Thrive Chicago with CPS Competency Based Education, and Communities in Schools Chicago, to learn about strategies for intentional SEL application at home. The session will also cover what advocating for SEL at your child’s school looks like, and how modeling best practices can lead to an improved quality of life for your children and family.
A Message from Zandi, our School Nurse:
The 3 W’s for a Safe Holiday
WEAR your mask, WATCH your distance, WASH your hands
Low risk ideas for this holiday season:
- Make seasonal dishes with the people you live with
- Enjoy time outside and plan a family walk
- Meet virtually
- Shop locally or online
It is safest to stay home and celebrate. If you are planning on traveling or having someone who does not live with you attend your holiday activities, it is important to take precautions and celebrate safely.
Tips to help keep you and your family safe:
- Stay home and avoid others when you are sick or have been exposed to illness
- Get your flu vaccine
- Wear your face covering and only remove it to eat
- Wash your hands frequently
- Maintain 6 feet of distance
- Limit the gathering to 6 or less people
- Take your seasonal activities outdoors
- Prepare individual food plates to limit the sharing of utensils
- Drive instead of fly, if possible
- Get COVID-19 tested before going anywhere or reduce interaction with others outside of your home for 2 weeks before a social gathering
If you want more information, see additional CDC recommendations. Have a safe and joyous holiday season!
