Building a Brighter Future, Edition 10- Oct. 1, 2021

Y'all Have No Idea...

So, I know y'all think we just learn all the time around here- letters, and numbers, and all the things. And while lots of what we do is serious, we also have quite a bit of fun. For example, this week, a group of 1st grade girls became convinced that BigFoot was on the stage. They swore up and down they saw a hairy hand move the curtains. Not sure why BigFoot would choose our cafeteria to hide out in, but there was no changing their minds. So what did we do? We set a trap! Apparently, BigFoot is a big fan of water and fruit. I'll let you know if we catch anything! :)

Parent Conferences are Coming Up!

We will have an early release day on Friday, October 22 to allow teachers to schedule parent conferences. Please stay tuned for sign-up sheets and more information from your child's teacher!

Our Week in Pictures!

Kindergarten Authors with a PreK Audience

Mrs. Rowin's kindergarten students wrote color books last week. This week, they read their books to Mrs. Arredondo and Mrs. Williams' PreK students. The authors were so proud and the audience members were so respectful!

Do You Need to Pick Your Child Up Early?-- UPDATED TIME

If you are needing your child early, we can bring them right out to the lobby for you- curbside service! :) We just ask you to arrive no later than 1:45 each day so that you don't get stuck in the bus line.

Transportation Changes? Email by 12:00 each day!

Cordovan Art School

We are excited for our Vikings to have the opportunity to join Cordovan Art School after school again! Please remember that if your student is enrolled in Cordovan Art School and they will be walking with Mr. Paul or Mrs. Mira after school, a transportation change needs to be made by calling or e-mailing Marcy in the front office ( so that we can ensure your student is dismissed to the correct location.

Remote Conferencing Opportunity for Isolated or Quarantined Students

Lago Vista ISD students may be eligible to participate in remote conferencing for attendance purposes in the event they are unable to attend face-to-face instruction on campus. Students are eligible for remote conferencing if both of the following requirements are met:

  • The student is unable to attend school because of a temporary medical condition; AND

  • The total amount of remote conferencing does not exceed more than 20 instructional days over the entirety of the school year.

A student who is absent due to other reasons not listed above will not qualify to participate in remote conferencing and will be marked absent each day he/she is not physically present in school.

In addition to the two requirements above, one of the following requirements must also be met:

  • The student’s temporary medical condition is documented by a physician licensed to practice in the United States; OR

  • The student has a positive test result for a communicable condition (such as COVID-19); OR

  • The student has been identified as having been in close contact with COVID-19.

Students in remote conferencing instruction will continue to work on class assignments via Seesaw, Google Classroom, or Canvas, and receive synchronous (live) assistance from a designated Remote Conferencing teacher. To the extent possible, a dedicated certified teacher will be designated to provide remote conferencing throughout the duration of students’ time in this setting, but it will not be the students’ teacher of record. In addition to working on assignments, students will be required to attend daily attendance meetings that will count for the day’s attendance and keep your child within the 90% attendance rule while out temporarily.

You will be notified by ParentLink with specific remote conferencing instructions and Google Meet links if your child qualifies for this temporary opportunity. If your child receives a close contact notification from the school, there will be a link to a form to complete if you wish for your child to participate in remote conferencing.

COVID Questions Answered

Q: If I was asked to get my student tested and they were negative, what do I need to do?

A: Either bring in a hard copy of the negative results to Marcy in the front office, or email them to the school at Once the results are confirmed to have been received, your student is good to return to school!

Q: How will I know if my student has been exposed?

A: If your student is determined to be a close contact of a student who has tested positive for COVID, you will be personally notified. If your child is in the same grade level as a student who has tested positive, you will receive an email.

Q: Are masks required?

A: LVISD does not require students, parents, teachers, staff members or visitors to wear masks or face coverings while on district premises. However, the wearing of face masks is allowed and is highly encouraged.

Q: Can I choose for my child to do at-home/remote learning this year?

A: The state has not provided for a funded remote instruction option this school year. Students not at school will be under normal attendance requirements. Exceptions to this are students who are isolated because of a positive COVID result or who are quarantined due to being a COVID close contact.

Is Your Child Going to be Absent?

If your child is going to be absent, please email your student's name, teacher's name, and the reason they are absent. She will take care of the rest!

Student Support Night- October 12

We are excited to host an in-person Student Support Night for parents who have children in Title 1, Accelerated Instruction, ESL, GT, and/or Dyslexia support programs. Parents will get an opportunity to meet the staff who works with their child, as well as learn about the program(s) their child qualifies for and how to support their child's learning at home. Lago Vista Middle School counselor, April Woodburn, will also lead a session on how to help your child deal with social and emotional needs.

This event will take place on Tuesday, October 12th from 6:00pm-7:00pm at Lago Vista Elementary School. Each program will have two sessions for parents who may need to attend more than one session. Session One will run from 6:00pm-6:30pm. Session Two will run from 6:30pm-7:00pm. Light refreshments will be provided. Since this night is an informational night for parents, we are asking that only parents attend. All attendees will be entered in a raffle for a chance to win door prizes. Prizes include 4-tickets to a home Varsity game with concession stand vouchers, and 2 t-shirts, as well as free sub coupons from Lakeside Subs.

See the flyer below for more information!

Lago Vista ISD encourages wearing face coverings at all indoor activities.
