Industrialization
By: Nigel Mbongo
Industrialization is the process by which an economy moves away from small-scale production to large-scale production in which most things are produced by using machinery. Before industrialization, skilled artist make most things by hand. After, machines tended by relatively unskilled workers make mass produced products (like t-shirts you buy off a shelf at the store).
Industrialization have many effects, both bad and good. On the good side, it makes a higher standard of living possible. This is because the mass-produced goods are cheaper than hand-made ones. Now more people can enjoy them. On the bad side, it is very disruptive to a society. It makes people work for others rather than themselves. It encourages people to move to cities to get work. This tends to destroy ancient, rural ways of life.
