Our Mission:
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents,
We had a great Math and Science week at Oak Ridge. This week is always one of my favorite weeks of the year. Thank you to all parents, volunteers, and students who took part in planning assemblies and participating in Math and Science Night. The students really enjoy the assemblies and the experiments are a great way for all of us to become engaged in Math and Science. Have a great weekend.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jason Parrott
News and Notes
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS AND GUARDIANS
Parents and guardians MUST accompany their child (children) for all PTA sponsored activities after school and in the evening. If a friend or neighbor brings your child to an activity, he/she will be responsible for your child. School personnel that are attending the activity are not responsible for children outside of the school day. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
WHEN TO KEEP SICK CHILDREN HOME FROM SCHOOL
Deciding when to keep a sick child home from school is not always easy. It's important for children to attend school and for some parents, staying home means missing work. But when a child is truly sick , they need to stay home in the care of an adult to get well and to prevent spreading illness to others.
Please keep the school office up to date with current phone numbers so you or an alternate contact can be reached if your child becomes ill or injured at school.
If the school is calling you, please answer the phone. The office sometimes spends hours trying to get in touch with a parent or emergency contact. This is unacceptable. Your child could be having a medical emergency. Thank you for your cooperation in this serious matter.
A child with a cough and fever must stay home from school for at least 24 hours after they no longer have a fever or signs of a fever, without the use of fever
reducing medicine. Fevers are a common symptom of viral and bacterial infection. Children are likely to be contagious to others when they have a fever. Please do not give your child fever reducing medicine and then send them to school.
Children who have vomited or had diarrhea should be kept home and should return to school only after being symptom free for 24 hours.
If a child has an earache or ear infection they should stay home until they are pain free.
A child with a significant headache belongs at home until feeling better.
A child with a significant toothache should not attend school.
We hope these policies regarding illness are helpful.
Parking:
We are getting into the thick of winter which can cause increase challenges for parking. We must all remember to be courteous of others and to abide by parking procedures. Please do not park on the left hand curb of the circle drive. Parking on the left hand curb causes safety and congestion issues for others. When dropping off in the morning, please pull up as far as possible in the front circle drive. This alleviates traffic backup and provides a safer drop off environment for all our students. Please do not stop in the middle lane to get out of your car.
In the back parking lot (off Rochester Rd.), please do not stop and park along the curb. Please circle through and drop your children off and continue on. They can line up outside their classroom door. On days that are below 15 degrees, we will invite them into the buildings and have them wait in the classroom. Thank you.
I9 Sports: I Love My School Grant!
Oak Ridge is currently in second place for the I9 Sports, "I love My School Grant." Please help push us into first by submitting an entry. You can do so by clicking here.
Guidelines for outdoor Safety Patrol in the winter months
The school district has set the guidelines for outdoor safety patrol. If the temperature with the windchill is below 15 degrees the students are not to be on post. Indoor safety patrol members are on duty regardless of the weather. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Dress your Children for Winter Weather
Please send your children to school with a warm coat, boots, snowpants, hat, mittens. The children will go out for lunch recess every day unless it is between 12 and 15 degrees or below factoring in the wind chill. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Have a question:
In the beginning of the year, Oak Ridge had a Curriculum Night to explain what your child will be doing this year in school. We understand that questions will occur throughout the year and wanted to provide a forum for those questions to be answered. We are instituting an Online Curriculum Forum to answer any specific questions you may have. If you have a question regarding overall school procedures, grade level content, schools of choice, or special education services please click on the following Google form: http://goo.gl/forms/toJIVPxQBb. Please make sure all questions are appropriate. We are all a community here, and as a community we need to treat each other with respect. Answers to questions will be posted on a weekly basis.
