EDUCATOR OF THE WEEK
This week's Educator of the Week is Mr. Bobby Battis, the District's Assistant Director of Facilities. Mr. Battis joined the team at the MPSD in 2013. Prior to taking on the role of Assistant Director this year, he worked as the Senior Custodian at the FBMS.
Wherever Mr. Battis works, his impact is felt. He's a tireless worker and always wants what is best for our students and staff. In his current role, he focuses most of his time and attention on the MHS/FBMS/MES complex, but he works with all of the schools to ensure their facility needs are being met.
When asked about Mr. Battis, one MHS staff member noted that, "Mr. Battis is not only completely committed to his role as a Facilities leader, he goes above and beyond in that position with his strong character and he serves as an exemplar of kindness, showing concern for others, and pride in his work. Our faculty and staff recognize this in Bobby and so do the students. Moreover, Bobby's patient and friendly nature allows students and faculty to feel safe and cared for at the High School."
On days like today, when the temperatures dip down to zero, it's reassuring to know that Mr. Battis and his team are keeping an eye on things. We congratulate Mr. Battis on being named Educator of the Week and we are lucky to have him on our team. #bettertogether

SENIOR DAY FOR MHS GYMNASTICS
WORKING WITH OUR DISTRICT'S FOOD SERVICE PROVIDERS
Beyond the fantastic, and healthy, food they prepare for our students and staff every day, these teams of professionals do so much more. Over the week, I saw them prepare special snacks and modified meals for students who are too shy to say anything in line. They take the extra time and care to prepare the meals separately beforehand and hand them out without any undue attention. They remember all of the students who walk through and know if they have special events coming up. They laugh with the students, play music in the background and always have a smile on their face.
We talk about the need for a positive social-emotional experience for our students and that is not exclusive to the classroom. It can happen when the students walk onto a bus or get greeted by a custodian opening the door. Their day can be made by a smile from a secretary in the main office or when a teachers meets them in class with a warm "hello". In the three schools I visited this week, I saw firsthand how a student's day can be made by the positive experience they have during their lunch period because of the caring professionals they interact with.
We are so fortunate to have such amazing people directing our food services and they are an integral part of our school community. Because of them, we are #bettertogether.
