Countdown To The First Days
What you need to know to start the school year...
Our C.R. Judd staff has been busy preparing to welcome our students back to school after what was a very long Spring Break once again! HRV units and HEPA units have been installed in our school, and hand sanitizers and disinfectant wipes are located in every room in the building, along with physical distancing cues. Masks are mandatory for everyone in the building (kindergarten students may wear either a face shield or a mask). Opportunities will be provided for students to remove their masks when outside during recess or outdoor learning and during lunch when they are eating.
In this newsletter, we are sharing with you some information and protocols that are in place to keep everyone safe and get the year off to a great start. In addition, we have provided some tips to prepare your child for school, conversation starters and links to tools & resources.
Please help us keep you informed by sending us your email address to c.r.judd_admin@rscloud.ca if you are not already subscribed to our C.R. Judd Families email list. All communication will be paperless.
Wishing everyone a great 2021-22 school year!

Screen for COVID-19 as part of your morning routine!
Daily Screening for Symptoms Before Leaving Home for School:
Use the COVID-19 School Screening Tool: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/
Note: This screening tool may be updated throughout the school year, as required. All staff and students who are experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19 as identified in the screening tool must not attend school and should follow the guidance provided in the screening tool, which may include seeking appropriate medical attention as required, and/or getting tested for COVID-19.
Thank you for working together to keep everyone safe.

This school year, all C.R. Judd students are being asked to bring the following items to school. Due to COVID protocols, masks are mandatory for all students. Students in Kindergarten can wear either a mask or a face shield. It is good practice to bring only what is essential.
Required Items For All Students
Non-Medical or Cloth Masks
Students in Grades 1 to 8 will be required to wear non-medical or cloth masks indoors in school, including in hallways and during classes. Kindergarten students are required to wear masks and/or face shields in indoor spaces. Outdoor times like recess will be used as opportunities to provide students with breaks from wearing masks within their cohorts. Students are encouraged to bring spare masks in the event one becomes wet or damaged throughout the day. Masks should be washed and dried on a nightly basis. We will have a supply of reusable, cloth masks available for students who need them. Staff, parents/guardians and visitors are also required to wear masks.
Refillable Water Bottle
Some water fountains will be used only to refill water bottles. Students will not be permitted to drink from the fountains. Please ensure the water bottle is clearly labeled with the child’s name.
Lunch Bag
Students will eat their lunch at their desk.
Indoor Shoes
Students will bring indoor shoes to wear at school. For younger students, Velcro fastening shoes or shoes they can put on themselves are recommended. They will put on their indoor shoes once they are in the classroom.
Backpack
A change of clothes – labelled in a Ziploc bag (Primary Students)
To be stored in the student’s backpack.

Pick-Up & Drop-Off of Students
Pick-up and drop-off of students will occur outside the school. Parents will not enter the building to pick up or to drop off their child.
Parents/ guardians will be required to practise physical distancing outside the school building and avoid congregating.
Drop Off:
Students being dropped off in the morning before the bell by bus, by a family member, or walking to school, will enter the designated entrance for their class:
Primary students (K - Gr. 4) will enter through the East primary doors on the daycare side.
Junior Intermediate students (Gr. 5 - 8) will enter through the North J/I doors at the back of the school.
At the end of the day, students walking home will exit through the same grade level designated doors they entered at the beginning of the day.
Please note: there will be no yard supervision prior to 8:35 am.
Pick Up:
Please contact the school by phone 705-671-5953 or email c.r.judd_admin@rscloud.ca if you will be picking up your child at the end of the day. We will add them to our pick up list and notify their teacher.
Students being picked up by a family member or caregiver will be waiting inside the West Gym Door that exits into the lower level parking lot.
Parents will meet a staff member outside of the door to sign their child out. Parents will come up the ramp, sign their child out and walk down the stairs with their child to the parking lot.
Late Arrival & Early Pick Up
Regular attendance is key to student success. We encourage our students to arrive on time, ready to learn every day for the complete school day. Our school day begins at 8:50 am and ends at 3:10 pm. If a student must be picked up for an appointment before the end of the school day or be dropped off late, please contact the school by phone 705-671-5953 or email c.r.judd_admin@rscloud.ca prior to that day to make arrangements. Parents or caregivers will not be permitted to enter the school and your child will have to go to the main entrance and wait to be buzzed into the building. If your child is not at school on time and you have not notified the school in advance, we will be making a safe arrival call home.
Please make every effort to schedule any appointments for your child outside of the school day to avoid disrupting learning routines. If your child needs to be picked up early, call or email the school office to arrange for your child to meet you outside of school at a designated time. When you arrive, please buzz the front entrance and we will have your child meet you.
