A WORD FROM MR. SISSON
Dear Skyview Families,
I hope that everyone had a warm and fun filled holiday season. We are looking forward to an exciting start to the second semester and the return of students after a much needed break. As we prepare for the second semester please note that two changes have been made to the master calendar. January 14 and February 18 are now “Pro-days” for staff. This means that students will not attend school on those days and allow for them to enjoy a four day weekend. Any future information or changes will be shared as more information becomes available. The second semester is a busy time of year as we begin to prepare for CMAS and begin to transition students to the next grade level. There will be a great deal of information on CMAS in the coming weeks, please take a moment to review your emails and communicate with teachers. Please also take the time to check your contact information in PowerSchool to ensure that we have the most up to date email, phone, and home address information.
With the return of students for the second semester, I also want to reiterate that we are requiring all students to wear their student identification badges at all times. Students are expected to have a badge to access hall passes and all extracurricular activities. This is critical for the safety and security of our students. Students who need to replace a badge can access the registrar in the front office and purchase a new badge for $5. I will also hold grade level meetings during the first week of school to revisit expectations for students while in attendance during the school day. SMS will continue to support a no cell phone policy and require that students utilize string backpacks in the classroom. This reduces the amount of interruptions to the learning environment. I will also be taking a firm stance that any student receiving a suspension will not be allowed to attend any extracurricular activities for the remainder of the school year, this includes 8th Grade Formal. It is my expectation that students follow building rules and expectations during the day, and those that cannot will not be awarded the privileges of students that do follow our expectations.
As a reminder, the first bell rings at 7:35 am for students to enter the building and tardy bell rings at 7:45.
As we continue to work through the school year we know that many decisions continue to be made throughout the school year that have a significant impact on students, staff, and our community. With that in mind, I encourage you to participate in the SMS School Accountability Committee (SAC). This committee acts as a guiding coalition for the school and the decisions that we make. I am a firm believer that it takes a village to raise our students. I want to hear from the community as we continue to grow as a school and zone. Please look for future information with specific dates, times, and locations for the SAC meetings for the remainder of the school year. Again, we are excited for the return of students and want to encourage our families to be a part of the Skyview community. Parental involvement is key to student success and building on the continued sense of community.
GO EAGLES!

Required Student Id's
Dear Skyview Families,
In an effort to improve and support security at Skyview Middle School we will be requiring all students to wear their student photo ID's. SMS provided a breakaway lanyards for all students, if your student chooses to provide their own lanyard please ensure that it is a breakaway and appropriate for school. Students that need a replacement ID will need to stop by the front off to get an updated ID from Mrs. Aragon.
Replacement IDs will be a $5 charge.

Happy New Year Skyview Families!
We hope everyone had a wonderful break, and are excited to welcome all of our students back for 2nd semester!
Immunizations: To start this semester off on the right foot, please ensure that your students' school-required immunizations are up-to-date. If you have an updated immunization record showing that your student has received any new immunizations, please bring a copy of that record to the school so that we can ensure that our records are complete and accurate.
Illness: Please remember to keep your students at home if they are displaying any signs or symptoms of illness! This is the only way we can prevent the spread of illness in our building. Now that cold and flu season is in full swing, we are seeing cases of strep throat and stomach viruses tick up. Per D49's illness policy, a fever of 100.4 or greater, a new-onset cough, and vomiting and diarrhea are several main reasons that students need to be kept home ill. For a complete list of illnesses to keep students home for, you can find D49's Illness Policy online.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to Jennifer Debelak Health Para or Erika Radcliff, RN, BSN, School Nurse at 719-495-5562.
