The majority of people with bulimia are female (85-90 percent) and the disorder usually starts between ages 15 and 20. The disorder affects up to 4 percent of women at some point in life. Men mostly have the non-purging type of this disorder when they do receive it. Of those that have bulimia, only 6% receive treatment.

Some Symptoms Include:
- Performing excessive exercise in order to work off calories
- Feeling out of control
- Withdrawing from social activities, especially meals and celebrations involving food
- Eating large amounts of food and purging it out by vomiting
- Weakness, exhaustion, and bloodshot eyes
