Athletics Weekly Summary
January 4th - January 11th
Written by: Caroline Howard
Well, well, well! It seems to me by this time of year the New Year Resolutions have been broken and the Patriots are in the playoffs--once again! And as for our Sharks, boy oh boy has it been a heck of a week!
Last Friday, our Girls Basketball team faced off in a big game against the Nauset Warriors! These Sharks had been preparing all week for these heavy hitting Warriors, and brought their A-game! Unfortunately, you just can’t win them all. The Girls showed a tremendous team effort until the final whistle blew! Great job ladies!
While the Girl’s team was up in Eastham, the Boy’s team faced off at home in the Shark Tank! They also battled against the Black and Gold Warriors, and had a fan section that was so large there were no more seats! The roaring crowd gave our Sharks that extra push they deserved, and they rolled with the punches displaying valiant effort! However, the Warriors took the lead and won 61-47. Nice effort boys! Way to play!
On Saturday, Boys Ice Hockey played against Upper Cape Tech in a very eye-catching game! The Monarchs put their all into the game, which seemed to challenge every players endurance! Overall, the Monarchs lost in a close game, 2-1. You’ll get them next time boys!
Also on Saturday was the Furies battle against the brutal Barnstable Red Raiders. The girls were up and ready to play as they geared up for this very physical game. When the puck dropped, the girls started their fight for victory and proceeded to demonstrate great defense and patience. Overall, the game ended with the buzzer sounding and the scoreboard reading Barnstable 4 Furies 0. Nice effort ladies!
Dun nun nun nuh! Dun nun nun nah nah! It is my pleasure to announce December’s Athletes of the Month! For the gals, Erin Starkey has been chosen for her outstanding effort and leadership on and off the court! She is a role model to her younger peers, as well as a highly respectable individual among her fellow upperclassmen. She is an Honor Roll student and will be going into a Nursing Program next year! Congratulations Erin! For the boys, Isaiah Stafford has been awarded for his sportsmanship and integrity among his fellow teammates on the Basketball team. Isaiah continuously proves his love for the game, as well as his team, whether it is in a game, at practice, or even the classroom. Isaiah is an Honor Roll student and plans on attending a college/university next fall. Congratulations Isaiah!
On Monday, Girls Basketball tipped off against Sturgis West. This game was one to watch, as the Sharks showed great passing, as well as taking opportunities to take big shots! The Sharks dunked a big win against Sturgis West, as the final score of the game was 43-10. Great win ladies!
It seemed as if the Lady Sharks were hungry for more! The day after their big win over Sturgis West, they faced off against Sturgis East! Again the Girls came out on top, with a big victory of 39-23! Great plays were made by Erin Starkey, Aleidy Rodriguez Minaya, and Maggie Dever! Way to go girls!
On Wednesday, the Cape Cod Furies played a great game against the combined team of Mansfield/Oliver Ames! The girls were close to the win, but ultimately fell to a loss 4-3. The Furies showed great effort and have made notable strides in their passing and play. A great game was played by Senior goalie Molly McKenna, who showed off her quick reflexes and determination! Way to play Molly, and way to play Furies!
On Thursday night, there was a highly advertised game from our Shark Tank Twitter page about the Boys Basketball game against Cape Cod Academy! There was an overwhelming fan section that made the game even more exciting to watch! Overall, the Sharks pulled out all the stops and ended up beating CCA 75-59! Way to go boys!
Girls Hoop also played against Cape Cod Academy on Thursday night! This was quite a game as the girls traveled to Osterville and tipped off against the Osprey! The girls put in a great effort which ultimately led them to win 43-24! Wow! Great job ladies!
Well folks, you know what they say: A 9 to 5 job is tough! And unfortunately for me, it has reached 5 o’clock. But don’t worry, I’ll be back next week with more reports and news! For now, I’m Caroline Howard and Go Sharks!
