-Please remember to be checking google classroom for assignments - Concert Band continues to have scale assignments.
-MPA Performances will be:
Symphonic Band- 3/13 2:30pm at JCHS
Concert Band- 3/14 9:30am at JCHS
-Permission slips for MPA will be sent home this week as well. We could use some parent chaperones on those field trip days. Details for those field trips will be on a flyer handed out this week.
-We will not be hosting an after school Sym camp this year. Instead, we have had guests come in during class periods to work with our bands on competition MPA music. Just wanted to let everyone know that event will not be scheduled or re-scheduled.
- Concert Attire is required for MPA - The Uniform order for new students should be in this week. Pants will need to be hemmed before MPA.
- Please pay ALL fees and trip payments that are past due.
- Any donations of computer paper or colored paper are appreciated.
Trip Band will need an after school combined rehearsal or two before we leave for the trip. We will get these scheduled this week as well and relay this information at our trip meeting Thursday (and in the trip packets).

Registration
Registration for the next school year is due on Wednesday. We hope to see all of our beginners signing up for band again next year. The next step in their band career is Concert Band. However, as certain instruments are needed for Symphonic Band, we may have to ask certain students to skip Concert Band. This will be a challenge for those students as they will be skipping a year of valuable curriculum. If your student would be willing to accept that challenge, they should sign up for Symphonic Band. Students will only be placed in this class if they are deemed ready and necessary after the audition. Please email Mrs. Merritt or Mrs. Sims with questions about this
Chair Test
The chair test scheduled for last Friday had to be rescheduled due to Panther Prowl. Students will take this test (#104 in the red book) on Monday and Tuesday. Please encourage your child to practice at home (15 minutes a day.)
Springs Fees and Paperwork
Please get any fees or Spring Instrument Rental Agreements in as soon as possible. If needed, email info@dmsbands.org to set up a payment plan.
Reeds (Clarinet and Saxophone Players)
Just a reminder that the band sells reeds for "emergencies." We are not meant to be the supplier of students reeds. Buying individual reeds from the band room is actually more expensive in the long run than purchasing a box on Amazon. See the Charms email sent out on 2/8/19 for links to suggest brands and sizes.
Snap! Raise Fundraiser
Our Snap! Raise Fundraiser is in full swing right now. If you do not want to participate by giving out people's email addresses, but still want to help, please remember that you can share the link to donate on social media as well. Donations to the band program are always accepted if someone wants to donate but does not want to use the Snap! Raise Link. Thank you for your help fundraising for your program.
Solo and Ensemble
As part of their grade this semester, every student is required to work up a solo and perform it. Students can complete this assignment in two ways:
1) By performing a solo at Solo and Ensemble, where they can receive a medal if they do well (recommended). OR
2) By performing a solo for the class
The cost to perform at Solo and Ensemble is $5 per event. Please send that in as soon as possible.
As always, if you have any questions please email us at
Mrs. Merritt- jmmerritt@madisoncity.k12.al.us
