Two New Student Board Members Seated

For the first time in history, the Glen Ellyn School District 41 Board of Education welcomed student Board members. Two Hadley Junior High students, Abigail Herbold and Ashlynn Kousgaard, were seated at the Board meeting this past Monday, January 13.

Superintendent Melissa Kaczkowski worked with Hadley Junior High School Principal Steve Diveley on a blind process to select the two students. The process included applications submitted by 8th grade students, letters of recommendation from peers and staff members, and an anonymous review of the applications by a district-wide selection committee. The students will serve for the remainder of the school year.

The role of student Board members is to provide advisory input to the District 41 Board of Education. As student members, they have the unique ability to represent the student voice during Board conversations and decisions. Student Board members will not be voting members of the Board and they will not have access to confidential information.

Congratulations, Ms. Herbold and Ms. Kousgaard, and welcome to the Board of Education!

Join parents and staff for a morning of conversation about what’s good for kids!

The 5th Annual District 41 Parent Camp will be held on Saturday, February 1 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln School. Parent Camp is an "unconference," meaning that sessions are meant to start a conversation and engage all the members of the small group as opposed to the traditional "stand and deliver" format of a traditional conference. The morning will be split into three 40 minute sessions.

New this year -- Social media and internet expert Liz Repking will present a keynote with information and tips for keeping kids safe online!

All District 41 families and staff are welcome to attend this free conference! Childcare will be provided by the Hadley Junior High Builders Club.

District 41 Staff Member Betsy Buckley Honored by the City of LaGrange

In November, District 41 Special Education Coordinator Betsy Buckley put herself in harm's way to pull a 4-year-old girl from a car just moments before it was hit by a train. It is no surprise that the City of LaGrange has honored her with the prestigious LaGrange Citizens Award. She was celebrated by the city as well as a number of first responders who attended the awards event and thanked her for her heroism.
