Glen Ellyn School District 41
Two New Student Board Members Seated
For the first time in history, the Glen Ellyn School District 41 Board of Education welcomed student Board members. Two Hadley Junior High students, Abigail Herbold and Ashlynn Kousgaard, were seated at the Board meeting this past Monday, January 13.
Superintendent Melissa Kaczkowski worked with Hadley Junior High School Principal Steve Diveley on a blind process to select the two students. The process included applications submitted by 8th grade students, letters of recommendation from peers and staff members, and an anonymous review of the applications by a district-wide selection committee. The students will serve for the remainder of the school year.
The role of student Board members is to provide advisory input to the District 41 Board of Education. As student members, they have the unique ability to represent the student voice during Board conversations and decisions. Student Board members will not be voting members of the Board and they will not have access to confidential information.
Congratulations, Ms. Herbold and Ms. Kousgaard, and welcome to the Board of Education!

2020/21 School Year Calendar Approved
The Board of Education approved the 2020/21 school district calendar at the Board meeting on Monday, January 13. Click Here for the approved calendar.
The first full day of student attendance will be Wednesday, August 19, 2020. The district supports a mid-week start as it is important for our students, especially our youngest ones, to ease back into the school year. Winter and spring breaks continue to align with Glenbard High School District 87 (Glenbard West).
Kindergarten Registration - Opens January 27
Kindergarten Registration for next school year opens January 27th! Visit www.d41.org/registration. Please help us spread the word to any new families who will have kindergarteners next year. Thank you!

Parent Camp - Saturday, February 1
Join parents and staff for a morning of conversation about what’s good for kids!
The 5th Annual District 41 Parent Camp will be held on Saturday, February 1 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln School. Parent Camp is an "unconference," meaning that sessions are meant to start a conversation and engage all the members of the small group as opposed to the traditional "stand and deliver" format of a traditional conference. The morning will be split into three 40 minute sessions.
New this year -- Social media and internet expert Liz Repking will present a keynote with information and tips for keeping kids safe online!
All District 41 families and staff are welcome to attend this free conference! Childcare will be provided by the Hadley Junior High Builders Club.

8TH GRADE ORCHESTRA VISITS GLENBARD WEST FOR JOINT REHEARSAL
The 8th grade orchestra class attended a field trip to Glenbard West for a joint rehearsal and luncheon this month. Students learned about the orchestra program at West and performed with other advanced high school orchestra students.
Thank you to Orchestra Director at Glenbard West Mr. Bill Ortega for organizing this special event. Hadley Orchestra Director Ms. Georgia Alemis stated that, "This type of educational experience inspires our 8th grade orchestra students to continue playing at Glenbard West and to continue performing for years to come."
