Grewenow. We are Great; we are Growing!

Mr. Sellenheim's Greeting

Greetings Grewenow Families

The first week is in the books and it was a huge success. It was so exciting to have our students back in the building, and I couldn't be prouder of the community our students and staff have already begun to build this school year. I wanted to thank all of the families who were able to attend our Blue Carpet Event because it made that welcome back morning incredibly special. If you are a Facebook user and follow KUSD, you may have seen this already, but Grewenow was featured in their welcome back video. Check it out here.

We look forward to the first full week that starts this Monday, September 10. That also happens to be our first day of school for the Early Childhood students. An exciting Monday is on the horizon. Have a great Monday and enjoy the fall-feeling weather.

Early Education (4K) Starts Monday!

Early education classes begin this Monday, September 11! The morning session are held from 7:25AM and run through 10:35AM. The afternoon sessions start at 11:10AM and end at 2:25PM. We can't wait to see our littlest dragons start their learning journey at Grewenow!

Dress Code

Families, please take a moment to review KUSD's dress code policy. We want students to be dressed for school success. Information can be found at this link and in case you don't click, the biggest reminder we want to give right now is for students to wear shoes/footwear that are secured to your student's feet (sandals must have a back meaning no flip flops please).

Student safety is our top priority in the parking lot

Just a reminder that during the morning drop off and afternoon pick up times, staff vehicles are the only vehicles allowed in the parking lot. Beginning Monday, September 11, cones will block off the parking lot and safety patrol students will be stationed to help students across that driveway and move the cones for staff ONLY. Please do not ask safety patrol members to move the cones as their answer will be "No."

Set a family meeting Point for student pick up after school.

Still looking for a place to meet up with your child(ren) below includes a pictographic summary of where each grade level starts and ends their day, Please make sure to set that consistent meeting point outside the school building so your child can find their family quickly. We know they are excited to share about their day of learning!

Morning Parent Reading Sessions

Grewenow Elementary is kicking off a new reading program geared at promoting literacy between adults and their children.

This event will run EVERY TUESDAY, for four weeks beginning on September 18th and conclude on October 9th. The event will take place in the cafeteria from 8-9AM.

Adults will learn reading strategies that will be useful in helping to foster a love of reading in their children.

Fliers will be sent home, and we ask families kindly fill out the RSVP form and return it to the school.

Picture Day

Grewenow will be having their Picture Day on September 25th.

Seal-A-Smile Program

This week, students in grades 2, 3, and 5 students received a green permission form for the Wisconsin Seal-A-Smile dental sealant program in the Wednesday take home folder. This program provides an opportunity for students to receive a new toothbrush, good dental health instruction, a fluoride treatment, and sealants (if appropriate).

To support this program the success of this excellent program, the Kenosha County Health Center is offering students an incentive to return the permission forms to school. Any classrooms that turn in 75% or more of their flyers will earn an ice cream party.

Additionally, if a classroom reached 100% return rate, teachers will earn a $25 Amazon gift which will be used for classroom resources.
