Upper EL News
Dear Upper El. families,
Upper El. had a busy final week of the school year. Here are some highlights:
Our 6th graders came back from their action packed Denver field trip. They had fun stories to share about all of their experiences. Thanks to all of the volunteers and donors who helped make the trip happen.
We had our final research presentations which were related to our spring field trips. We heard about desert animals, cacti, arches, and natural resources from our 4th and 5th grade students. Our sixth graders chose topics like functional art, animals from the Denver Zoo, Colorado history and more. It is amazing to see how their research and presentation skills have progressed over the school year.
On Wednesday, we made fettuccine pasta with Moni Slater from the Kids Pasta Project. This is a local service organization that started with Montessori students/families in 2009. This summer, KPP will be hosting monthly meals and donating the proceeds to local organizations. Several of our students expressed interest in getting involved. Here is a link to their website. Contact Moni to find out more about student training sessions. There are also opportunities for adults who would like to be involved.
Wednesday we also had a history presentation from “Abigail Adams” that the students really enjoyed. Ask your child to share their learning from this engaging performance.
Our 6th grade graduation ceremony was so lovely. Thanks to all of the parents who helped organize the event. Our graduation is a time that we really get to honor the impact of our Montessori program in our community. We are so proud of our graduates!
Field day was a fantastic way to celebrate our final day. Thanks to Jack and all of the parents who came out to help with the fun.
Important reminders:
We have sent home math packets for our 4th and 5th grade students to complete over the summer. We have found that this summer work really helps students to retain their skills and makes it easier to pick up again in August. Please do this review work with your student!
We encourage you to also support your student as a reader this summer. The public libraries have great programs planned to help our readers stay engaged. Feel free to email Shannon if you need any book recommendations or ideas about ways to help your student keep reading this summer.
The NFM@C GARDEN CLUB is another great summer opportunity for your student. There is more information on our website and a flier was sent home. We hope that a group of students can help our gardens flourish!
Finally, our thanks for a great school year. We appreciate your support and we love working with your students!
Enjoy.
Congrats to our 6th grade graduates!
