What's Coming Up This Summer For 2023 -2024 School Year?
SUMMER SCHOOL INFORMATION
This 2023 summer, Roberto Clemente Middle School (RCMS) is excited to host students for summer school. Below is the information you need for your student(s) to successfully start summer school at RCMS.
If you are no longer interested in having your student(s) attend summer school, please contact as soon as possible Mr. Steve Howington, Summer School Lead Teacher, at stephen_howington@mcpsmd.org or 301-284-4750.
Dates & Times
- Date: July 10 to July 28; three weeks
- Time: 8:00 am to 12:30 pm
- Students may arrive at 7:55 am.
- No after-school programs, clubs, or activities at RCMS
LUNCH AND BREAKFAST
Breakfast and lunch for Summer School is Free for all Students
Transportation (arrival 7:55 AM)
- Car Riders: Please use the car loop and walk to the main entrance (Arrival 7:55 am).
- Walkers: Use the main entrance of the school building only (Arrival 7:55 am).
- Bus Riders: The linked RCMS Summer School Bus Routes indicate the approximate pick-up and drop-off times of bus stops. Please make sure your student(s) arrive early (at least 10 minutes before posted time). It is the responsibility of parents and students to arrive at the nearest or best available bus stop as these are the only stops available this summer.
Student Schedules
- Students will receive their class schedules when they arrive on Monday, July 10.
- All students will participate in an English/Language Arts (ELA), math, and elective class during a class period.
- All students will participate in a Wellness block. Wellness time serves as a "brain break" for students where they can build relationships with teachers and other students, exercise, play a game, etc.
Students will follow the summer school class schedule as outlined below.
- Breakfast-Grab and go
- Period 1 (8:00 - 8:50)
- Wellness (8:55 - 9:25)
- Period 2 (9:30 - 10:20)
- Wellness (10:25 - 11:05)
- Period 3 (11:10 - 12:00)
- Lunch (12:05 to 12:30)- Bagged lunch with milk provided
Supplies
- RCMS has ALL the supplies students will need for summer school.
Day 1 (July 10th)- Town Hall and Modified Schedule
On Monday, July 10, students will start the day with a Summer School Town Hall. During the Town Hall, students will meet the RCMS teachers and staff, hear summer school expectations, learn about the summer school program, and participate in a Q&A session. After the Town Hall, teachers will follow the schedule outlined above. During this day, teachers will engage students in fun lessons to build relationships and the school community. Academic learning and tasks will begin on Tuesday, July 11.
Cell Phones
To ensure full student engagement and maximize success, RCMS wants to make sure that students are focused and mentally and emotionally present. With such a limited amount of time school time and to ensure student's overall success, RCMS looks to limit distractions and interruptions.
- Students may have a cell phone with them at school.
- RCMS is NOT responsible for a student's cell phone.
- Cell phones are NOT to be out or used during a class period (ELA, Math, and Elective). Students may use a cell phone during Wellness time.
- PLEASE speak to your student(s) about proper cell phone usage and their responsibilities.
- We will also review during the Town Hall on Monday, July 10, 2023.
Meals & Snacks - Breakfast and lunch for Summer School is Free for all Students
- All students will have access to a bagged breakfast and lunch meal.
- Students may bring snacks and drinks.
- Snacks: Something small in a sealable bag of some sort
- Drinks: Water, water, water
- Students may bring a water bottle to be filled at the school's water-filling station.

DONATIONS: Please consider donating any of the above school supplies to our school as well as tissues and hand sanitizer.
BACK TO SCHOOL INFORMATION PACKET
TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION - WILL BE SENT IN AUGUST
This will include bus routes for local RCMS students as well as out-of-area MAGNET students.
NEW STUDENT MINI-DAY
Students who ride buses will be picked up and dropped off.
