Hippo Nation...Better Together! March 2021

A Note from your CCE Principal

Dear CCES Families--

We have finally closed out the month of February! There have been so many things that have happened this past month at CCE including celebrations and performances for black history month, temporary remote school closure, and our winter "once-in-a-lifetime" weather event which also impacted our community. As we continue to support each other as a community, we reflect on the month and prepare to look ahead to the month of March! We know that we are a T.E.A.M. -Together Everyone Achieves More!

We will kick off the month of March by celebrating Dr. Seuss, children's book author, this week. Please see the Dr. Seuss flyer below. March also begins our state testing preparation and some assessments will begin this month for TELPAS (Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System).

At CCE we take care of our families; you will find resources in this memo that we hope will benefit our families still struggling with the effects of the storm. Please feel free to share with others in our community that may have been impacted by this winter storm. Many other resources can also be found on our campus Facebook page. Check it out, it is filled with insight into what is happening at The Creek!

As many of you know, some areas of our campus were impacted by a water pipe burst that occurred over the winter storm, we plan to have the large humidifiers located at the front entrance removed within the next week and will return to our normal traffic loop pattern as soon as we can. We will communicate any changes with families as we have updates, thank you for your patience and understanding already!

As you read the memo for this month, join me in celebrating the many LEGENDARY things that are going well at CCE! Thank you for your support!

Cottonwood Creek Elementary has the BEST Staff, Students, and Families! We truly are "Better Together"! Our students are "Legendary" at Cottonwood Creek Elementary!

How are we doing with our Campus Improvement Plan ?

A Campus Improvement Plan (CIP) is the "map" that our campus uses to guide all of the decisions that we take at our campus to support continuous improvement. Our CIP committee is composed of a variety of teacher representatives, community business members, and parent representatives.

Check out the progress that is being made! Thank you to all of our members for their input and for representing our campus!

Community Resources

Round Rock Area Serving Center

Food pantry, RR Coats for Kids, clothing & furniture vouchers, Computers for Kids, community gardens, Volunteer Center, computer skills training, and financial assistance for utilities, rent, prescriptions, transportation, and temporary lodging.

Reminders from our front office:

* Daily Student Pick-Ups need to occur before 2 PM; For Early Release Days pick-ups before 11 AM only. This ensures our dismissal process runs smoothly, thank you! Remember that any early pick-ups, for reasons not excused, count as a partial day absence. Avoid truancy issues and plan for pickups after school hours.

* All Elementary Campuses are not accepting outside deliveries for staff and students i.e. lunch boxes, birthday items, snacks, backpacks, donations, flowers/gifts for teachers. Our goal is to practice social distancing and health guidelines and avoid unnecessary exposure to our staff and students.

*If you have a doctor's appointment and need to pick up your child, call the school office to notify them that you will be visiting, drive around the loop of the school and park in the front parking lot, walk up to the front entrance and ring the doorbell to the right on the wall, have your identification ready to show and we will call for your student and escort them to you outside. The office staff will sign them out and then back in when they return.

* Make sure students arrive on time each day, school begins at 7:40. Each day that a student is tardy equals cumulative learning experiences that are missed in the classroom. Students often feel stressed when they don't know what they have missed when they are late, let's help them be successful by getting them to school on time.

* Campuses are still closed to visitors at this time, thank you for supporting us in a million other ways as we hope to get back to a semi-normal visitor policy soon!
