Girls on the Run
The girls have been working hard to prepare for our 5K celebration. Please see important information below with details.
This week we have been focusing on working as a team and how cooperation is an important factor. We did a few really fun activities which required team work in order to complete. One of the activities involved working with a tangram. A tangram is a Chinese geometric puzzle. The girls were broken up into two teams. The first girl on each team ran down to her team's cone to retrieve one of the seven puzzle pieces, and then ran back to her group to tag in the next teammate. The second girl ran down to the team's cone to retrieve the second puzzle piece. The girls repeated this action until all of the puzzle pieces were collected. Then each team had to work together as a group to arrange the pieces into a square without any overlapping pieces. It was a great activity as there were conflicts noted which allowed the girls to use everything we have learned so far to help deal with the conflicts and continue with the activity.
Personal Hygiene
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Good personal hygiene plays a critical role in promoting a positive self-image and reinforces healthy habits. We encourage these good hygiene strategies at school and encourage you to do the same at home. The following are examples of good DAILY hygiene practices:
Shower or bathe everyday or every other day.
Wash hands ALWAYS after: using the restroom, before and after eating, playing outdoors
and touching animals.
Trim fingernails and toenails, clean dirty fingernails.
Wash hair daily or every other day.
Use deodorant or antiperspirant at least once a day (if necessary).
Brush teeth twice a day and, preferably, floss daily.
Wear clean/unsoiled clothes everyday
Wear clean socks and underwear every day.
Maintain your general health through exercise, plenty of rest and good nutrition.
This coming Tuesday and Wednesday I will be doing a lesson plan on personal hygiene and why it is important. I will be showing a quick 5 minute video that mentions puberty and how your body reacts to overwhelming hormones leading to different odors and wanted you all to be aware. I will also be handing out a “goody bag” that includes different personal care items. This bag may include:
Deodorant
Shampoo
Conditioner
Body Wash
Tooth Brush
Tooth Paste
To opt out, please contact me directly at 802-869-2637 or jennifer.vaughan@wnesu.com no later than 8:30 am on Tuesday, 5/30/23.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Vaughan, RN

Ticks
PROTECT: Avoid areas where ticks live, use EPA-registered tick repellents, and cover up.
CHECK: Don't let ticks hitchhike inside and check your whole body.
REMOVE: Remove attached ticks as soon as you can.
WATCH: Watch for symptoms and tell your provider if you get sick.

*IMPORTANT REMINDERS*
Attendance:
If your child is sick and going to be absent, we ask that you notify the school by calling the main office at 802-869-2637.
Illnesses (please read)
If your child is sick (fever greater than 100.4, vomiting and/or diarrhea) it is imperative that you keep your child home. Your child can return to school 24 hours once they are fever free (without the use of fever reducing medication) and free from vomiting and/or diarrhea.
Medications:
There may be times during the year where your child needs to have medication administered at school.
Prescription medications: a note from your child’s doctor with instructions for use and parental signature are required to administer any medication during school hours. An adult must deliver the medication to the health office in the original container.
Non-prescription medications: parental signature is required to administer any “over the counter” medications. An adult must deliver the medication to the health office in the original container.
Prescription and non-prescription medication permission forms are available in the health office.
Head Lice:
Please do your part by periodically checking your child's head for head lice and treat as needed. SRES no longer excludes children from school for head lice per instructions from the American Academy of Pediatrics. If head lice is found during school hours the parent/guardian will be notified and proper treatment will need to be done before your child can return to school. Please Note: Mass head checks are no longer done in school
Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's health.
After School
After-School Programs Update:
Our projects are coming along well. We can't wait for you to see our woodworking rounds! Our ASP students have requested to make whipped cream, so June 16th we will make our own whipped cream for strawberry cake in celebration of our last day of ASP!
Monday: Gardening Club: This week our Gardening Club transplanted their seedlings into our garden space. They planted pumpkins, winter squash, cucumbers and sunflowers.
Tuesday: Woodworking Club: Our students painted the pieces for their rounds.
Wednesday: Keeping Memories Club: Our memories books are coming along amazingly.
Thursday: Grafton Nature Museum Club: This week Sam taught us about the differences between the red fox and bobcat. Then we played a game called fox tail. Ask your student about this game. It is one of our favorites so far!
Friday: Board Game/Outdoor Club: This week our choices are Legos, Sorry, Break the Ice, Rubber Band Bracelets and outdoor play.
Looking forward: June 16th last day of ASP with homemade whipped cream and strawberry shortcake!
