Just a Note
Wow! November has flown by! We hope everyone had a wonderful and safe fall break. We are well on our way into our second quarter and are learning lots of new information! We are looking forward to all the excitement and energy that December brings.
Tomorrow is the Roo Hop. Thank you to everyone who has been collecting money for our PTA!
Language Arts
While we focus on fiction books for the first half of this quarter, we are looking at retelling a story using transition words such as first, next, then, and after. We will also look at story elements such as setting, characters, problem, solution, and main idea. We will continue practicing asking questions before, during, and after reading and looking at the beginning, middle, and end of a story, as well. These are fantastic skills that can be applied while reading books at home!
Continue to support your child's reading habits by practicing reading and writing their high frequency words and reading their little books each night.
Math
We are well into unit 4. Unit 4 focuses on place value and reading, writing, and representing numbers up to 120. Students must be able to recognize that 10 ones is the same as 1 ten. Students must also be able to explain that a teen number is composed of 1 ten and some ones. We will also be introducing the idea of comparing two 2-digit numbers using the terms greater than, less than, and equal to. We will also be mentally determining 10 more and 10 less than a given 2-digit number.

Reminders
If your child does not have a set of headphones at school, please send a pair with them. We use headphones every day during our daily 5 and math rotations. You can pick up a pair for a bargain at the dollar tree, target, or 5 below.
Please keep a change of clothes in your child's backpack.
The weather is beginning to become cooler and our classrooms can be chilly. Please send a sweater or sweatshirt with your child. Please be aware that our playground is very cold during the winter. Be sure that your child is dressed appropriately for outside play.
If your child has a change of transportation at dismissal time, please email springridge.es@fcps.org or call the front office by 3:15 pm. Do not email your child's teacher. Thank you!
