NEW-->Delayed Start on Wednesday, Sept. 18 and Wednesday, Nov. 6
The district is conducting a delayed start to help prepare our schools should a delayed start be necessary due to inclement weather. This will allow the district to consider the logistics involved in postponing the start of the school day and help prepare families should this action occur.
The district is testing this plan based on the number of school closures caused by inclement weather during the last school year. The school day will end at its regular time on September 18 and November 6. Families are encouraged to make plans now to accommodate these scheduled delayed starts.
**For more information about the delayed start and calendar information visit: http://bit.ly/2M9zCnV
**Students will still have Specials on late start days**
Art Room Reminder
There are days that we do get messy in the art room. It is strongly suggested to wear play clothes on days that your child has art. We don’t supply paint shirts. If you would like to have your child wear a paint shirt, please supply them with a shirt and they can keep it in their locker until art day. If you have any further questions, please contact Mrs. Souders at ssouders@usd232.org.
Nurse Notes
Immunizations, all students must be current on their vaccinations by October 14th, 2019 or they will be excluded from school on that date. Letters were sent home and a second reminder will be mailed stating which vaccination(s) are missing. Please provide proof of vaccination by providing one of the following;
· A statement from your health care provider with the day, month, and year that your child received the vaccination (s),
· A statement signed by your doctor indicating a medical exemption or delayed schedule, or
· A statement of religious exemption signed by a legal guardian.
On August 2nd the state of KS passed a new law requiring all Kindergarten and 1st grade students to have two Hepatitis A Vaccinations. If your child had two Hepatitis A vaccinations and you still received a letter, your child likely received the 2nd vaccine too early for it to be considered valid by the state of Kansas. This will require your child to receive a 3rd dose of the vaccination to be compliant. If you have older children that have not had their 1st or 2nd Hepatitis A vaccination, it’s a good idea to get them caught because the state will be expanding the requirement to older children next year.
If your child suffers seasonal allergies please be sure to medicate them prior to the start of the school day. The health room only stocks allergy medication for use in emergency situations. We are happy to keep over-the-counter medications from home in our office; please include a note from home giving us permission to give the medication, and send the medication in its original packaging with the medication’s dosing instructions.
Looking forward to a great school year!

Office Reminders
Absent? Have an appointment? Arriving late or leaving early? Going on vacation? Please contact the office either by phone call or email to notify them of your students absence. If your student is absent for the day, please make sure you contact your teacher by email or call the Mize office to report an absence by 9:00am.
If we do not hear from the parent/guardian, please expect a phone call from the Mize office so that we can accurately report the attendance. It is always appreciated when parents communicate any absence.
Change in transportation:
If you have a change in transportation please notify the office or email your students teacher. We will not send a student home differently unless we hear from the parent. Please notify the office with all dismissal changes by 3:00.
Bus Riders:
If your student is going home with a friend who also rides the bus, your student will need to stop by the office for a bus pass to give to the bus driver. A parent will need to either call, send a note or email the office. Car riders who do not ride the bus cannot go home with bus riders.

Parents we need YOU!
Are you a parent who is looking to be involved but cannot volunteer during the daytime? We may have found a solution for you! We are in need of parents to be apart of our Mize Site Council that meets once a quarter. What is Site Council? A School Site Council is group of teachers, parents, administrators, and interested community members who work together to develop and monitor a school's improvement plan. Site Council is a great way to be in the know with what is going on with your home school and within the school district. If this is something you are interested in participating in we would love to have you apart of the council! Please contact the Mize office -913-441-0880 for further details.
