2nd Grade Math
Topic 5: Subtract Within 100 Using Strategies
Topic 6: Fluently Subtract Within 100 Using Strategies
Topics 5 and 6: Solve One-Step and Two-Step Word Problems
3rd Grade Math
Topic 5- Fluently Multiply and Divide within 100
Fluency with Multiplication and Division Facts:
Representation and patterns are used to see the relationships between facts.
Multiplication and Division Stories:
A bar diagram shows the relationship between quantities in a word problem. It helps students write an equation that can be used to solve the problem.
Topic 6- Connect Area to Multiplication and Addition
Students count unit squares, both nonstandard and standard, to find the area of figures.
Connect Area to Multiplication and Addition:
Students explicitly recognize that the area of rectangles can also be found using multiplication.
Distributive Property:
Students find the areas of rectangles by breaking them apart.
Topic 6-Connect Area to Multiplication and Addition
Students multiply to find the areas of rectangles with whole number side lengths.
Applications:
Students experience real-world and mathematical situations that involve area.
4th Grade Math
Topic 5: Use Strategies and Properties to Divide by 1-Digit Numbers
Divide by 1-Digit
Number Sense:
Students use basic facts and place-value understanding to divide multiples of 10 and 100 by 1-digit numbers.
Remainders:
Students learn how to interpret and record remainders.
Models and Strategies for Dividing by 1-Digit Whole Numbers:
Students use a variety of models to connect division of greater numbers to the meanings of division, the Distributive Property, and division strategies. Strategies include partial quotients and sharing.
Topic 5: Use Strategies and Properties to Divide by 1-Digit Numbers
Students recall basic facts and place-value understanding to divide multiples of 10 and 100.
Remainders:
Students develop a sense of how to use the context of the problem to interpret remainders.
Partial Quotients:
Students use models and the distributive property to help visualize how to bread division problems into parts.
Topic 6: Use Operations with Whole Numbers
Comparison Situations:
Multiplicative Comparison and Additive Comparison:
Students solve problems involving comparison and learn to distinguish between multiplicative comparison and additive comparison.
5th Grade Math
Topic 5: Use Models and Strategies to Divide Whole Numbers
Divide by Multiples of 10:
Students learn to divide who numbers by multiples of 10. They use place-value patterns or multiplication to divide.
Estimate Quotient:
Students use compatible numbers to estimate whole-number quotients.
Topic 5: Use Models and Strategies to Divide Whole Numbers
Use Models and Properties to Divide:
Students use an area model and properties to divide with 2-digit divisors. Properties include the relationship between multiplication and division and the Distributive Property.
Use Sharing to Divide:
Students use place-value blocks in an array and sharing to divide. They then find quotients of greater numbers using an area model and sharing.
Topic 6: Use Models and Strategies to Divide Decimals
Students develop understanding of dividing with decimals using models, place-value strategies, and properties.
Divide by Powers of 10:
Students learn the pattern in dividing by powers of 10.
Estimate Quotients:
Students use rounding and compatible numbers to estimate quotients involving decimals.
