Read Across America Week and Parade
The Read Across America week was amazing. We had a lot of participation and the students really went all out for their book character costumes. Thank you parents for helping them coordinate their costume with a book title. Most everyone had a book or book cover picture with them for the parade. It was a great time for all.
MyOn is On at CPES
CPES students have finished over 10,000 books on MyOn. I am so proud of our great readers. You may be wondering if listening to a book on MyOn helps your student become a better reader. " I suppose the answer to that question must come from one's own definition of reading. If reading is understanding the content of the story or the theme, then audiobooks certainly succeed. No one would argue the importance of decoding in teaching children to read. But, understanding the message, thinking critically about the content, using imagination, and making connections is at the heart of what it means to be a reader and why kids learn to love books." http://www.readingrockets.org/article/benefits-audiobooks-all-readers
MyOn provides a benchmark exam for the student to determine his Lexile reading level. The program also performs an interest inventory. Following the benchmark and inventory, books will be suggested on the child's independent reading level and about topics of interest. These books are excellent choices to read without the "read along feature" which can be turned off on the bottom of the screen. Students are welcome to choose books easier than their Lexile which make good opportunities for practice. More difficult books can be read along with the computer to assist with deeper comprehension building.
Keep on reading. Thank you for helping your student become a MyOn reader.

Book Fair is Coming
If you can spare a couple of hours to help out at Book Fair, we would love to have you. I have put together a sign up genius at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/409054faba823a3fa7-book. Dress comfortably and come help the students find their books and restock the book fair. I could not run the book fair without the help of volunteers, so thank you very much.
