Principal's Message

Dear St. Maria Goretti Catholic School Families,

I hope you all have enjoyed this beautiful weekend and have been able to enjoy the (finally) fall weather!

The busyness of October continues this week at SMG beginning tomorrow night when Dr. DeAnn Stuart will be on campus to present A Parent's Introduction to Classical Education. Please see the information below for more information and the link to a sign-up so that we have an idea of how many to expect. I hope that you all will make every effort to attend and learn more about the curriculum.

Within the next day or two, you will be receiving an email from your students' homeroom teacher(s) with a link to sign-up for Parent/Teacher Conferences, which will take place on Thursday, October 24th from 1:00-7:30PM. Please only sign-up to conference with your child's homeroom teacher. If you would like to conference with another teacher and/or a specials teacher, please email that teacher directly to schedule a mutually convenient time.

On Tuesday, our 8th grade students will visit Nolan Catholic High School for the 8th Grade Shadow Day. Even students who are not planning to attend Nolan for high school will enjoy the visit and the activities they have planned for the day. On Wednesday, SMG 7th Grade students will visit Nolan, along with 7th Grade students from across the diocese, for Vikathon. Nolan Catholic President, Mrs. Leah Rios, and Principal, Mr. William Perales, will be on campus Thursday night (10/17) at 6:30PM to present to parents of 6th-8th grade students. Parents of current 8th grade students are especially encouraged to attend, even if they are still undecided about where their student will attend high school.

Our fall Book Fair opens on Friday (10/18) and will run through Thursday (10/24). Please see below for more information about the schedule and events Mrs. Cottingham has planned.

Finally, the 5th/6th Volleyball Tournament that is taking place at SMG this week is in need of volunteers. Please see the information and the sign-up below for more details.

Enjoy your evening and I hope to see many of you tomorrow evening!

St. Maria Goretti, Pray for Us!

Virtus Training

All school volunteers over the age of 18 must complete the required Diocesan Safe Environment training, also referred to as VIRTUS training, prior to volunteering.

This training consists of an in person class and a criminal background check. After completing the training, your certification is good for 2 years. After 2 years, you will need to complete a renewal course. You may not volunteer at school until we receive notification of your completion of the training course, and until your background check clears. This includes all school related activities such as lunch monitor, playground monitor, field trip chaperone, class party helper, library volunteer, Kountry Karnival worker, and many other opportunities.

**You may not volunteer in any capacity without first completing this training. You will not receive SPIRIT hour credit for hours completed without training.

Here is the link to set up a VIRTUS account and to sign up to attend a session.

You may register and attend a session at any parish in the Fort Worth diocese. Please email if you have any questions or need assistance. Thank you!
