Magers Memo
January 2nd, 2019
Happy New Year!!
Updates from Crystal
I hope you enjoyed your break and got lots of rest! There is a lot of information in this newsletter, so please read carefully.
- Storm Drill this Friday at 2:30 p.m.
- Beginning Monday, January 7th we will be implementing a new after school dismissal duty schedule. You can access the schedule here. We added more people to the gym and library due to a need for more supervision. Some of your positions have changed, due to an effort to ensure there is someone from every grade level in every area to help identify kids. You are paired with your co-teacher and can alternate duty positions each week or do the same position for the remainder of the year. This is up to each pair. Please let me know if you have questions.
- Please read and teach your students these new playground norms. We have had several issues on the playground and feedback about recess is divided. We all agreed that having common playground norms would help with behavior. It is important that everyone teach and follow these norms to/with your students. If after reviewing these norms, you feel something should be added, please email Misty.
- Please add your 2nd Quarter Shine Students to this form by the end of the day on Friday, January 4th so Bri can get certificates printed for our Shine Assemblies next Friday, January 11th.
- FYI: Steven Sparkman will be taking over Amy Larue's zone. Steven has worked with Sherwood in the past. You can reach Steven at steven.sparkman@penmac.com or by phone (417) 616-6342.
Below is an article that is a great reminder of re-modeling expectations after Winter Break.

We will have 2 additional meetings to complete the training. The first portion of the training is specific to behavior and de-escalation strategies. The last portion focuses on the physical aspects of restraining students. Please mark your calendar with the dates below, which are required for ALL certified staff:
Tuesday, January 29th
Tuesday, February 5th
Tuesday, February 12th

Please complete the MOY Reflection form below. On Monday, January 7th (in GLTM's) you will be asked to sign up for a time to meet with Crystal to review your MOY Reflection.
Please note the following schedule changes: Misty will be here every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday beginning next week (yay)! Amber Knight will do counseling lessons 3 weeks a month, and those weeks are specified on the Sherwood Calendar.

If you want to refer a student for scheduled time in either room, please complete the form and put it in Pam's mailbox. Pam will work with you to get your student scheduled.

Please Welcome Judy Valte!
Judy will be our long-term substitute for Katie Beagley for the remainder of the year, if Katie is unable to return. Judy will be here through January for certain. Please read her bio below and welcome her to the Sherwood team:
Hello, my name is Judy Black. I recently relocated to Springfield from Deep South Texas and got married to my amazing husband in June. I received my bachelors degree from Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, Fl with elementary education. I have experience teaching K5-3rd grade and absolutely love what I do. When I am not teaching—you can find me out and about on a new adventure with my husband. We enjoy being outdoors and always find ourselves at the gym. I am so excited to teach your children!
Community Partnership

Next Year, Central Bank will sponsor the "Central Bank Art Award". Mrs. Wolfe will send 10 pieces of artwork to Central Bank each month and the staff will choose the winner. Someone from Central Bank will present the award to a student in an assembly at Sherwood. The student's art will be displayed in the lobby of the bank for the month, the student will get a tour of the bank (including the safe), and then the artwork will be hung in the Sherwood halls until the student leaves Sherwood in 5th grade. We are very excited about this new partnership and look forward to celebrating student art!
Also, they would like to come for Day of Caring this summer. We do not need any painting or landscaping done, however, if you want to prepare math games for volunteers to laminate, cut out and prepare-this is a great job for our volunteers on this day. Start planning and thinking now of jobs for this crew to do this summer in prep for next year!
Lastly, I am placing a bag of "stuff" from Central Bank that they are willing to provide to every student in your class. The activity is geared for upper grades and would accompany a lesson within your classroom. Please let me know if you would like me to request these for your classroom. Feel free to open the envelope and check it out, just return it to the table in the workroom so all teachers can preview.
