Bobcat Bulletin

Counselor & Student Advocate
Welcome back from Winter Break, and Happy New Year 2024. We are all so happy to see our bobcats back today, and we started off with a character trait assembly for January which is BE KIND and a Martin Luther King Jr. song by 2nd grade.
As we dive back into school, we find ourselves half way through, and wanted to share about two important individuals on campus. Our school counselor, Gustavo Garcia-Rojas and Student Advocate, Lily Marquez. Their roles are significant to the social-emotional growth of our students which allow for the highest academic success when each students knows who they and that they belong.
Mr. Gustavo is our certificated counselor who sees students one on one and/or in small groups. He also goes into classes teaching Kimochis, Zones of Regulation, and running circles. Students often enjoy their free time with Mr. Gustavo, so to meet this need, students in grades 3-6th have Lunch Bunch. Though Mr. Gustavo is highly proficient as our school counselor, we always advise that if your child is experiencing trauma, major life changes, or mental health issues; refer to outside professionals. School-based counseling can work in tandem with outside therapist, but should not be the stand alone. See below for resources and suggestions for navigating therapy referrals.
Ms. Lily is our classified Student Advocate who is supervised under our counselor and principal. She is our lead for Check In/Check Out, which is a tier 2 intervention for students who need additional support to stay on target with a specific goal. Ms. Lily also is on hand has needed throughout the day for classroom teachers, if a student needs to take a break, needs a snack, is having a hard time, or simply wants to see her. It is best to have more than one adult on campus that a student is able to connect.
Each run Tier 2 Behavioral Interventions which are skills-based groups that run for 6-8 weeks, weekly to teach student within specific grade levels. Skills range from teaching what are expected versus unexpected behaviors, Hands Off academy, to healthy and unhealthy relationships.
With this dynamics team, we know our students mental health and social-emotional learning are on a good path. Working with teachers, we connect all the dots to give each student what they need.
BE Safe. BE Responsible. BE Respectful.
BE YOUR BINKLEY BEST!
Warmly,
Harmony Harvell, Principal
