Please welcome out newest Highland Park Bulldog teacher!
I would like to take the opportunity to welcome Ms. Kristen Dyniewski to our Kinder team! Ms. Dyniewski comes to us with over 15 years of teaching experience in grades K-2! Some of you may have met her last week as she spent several days getting to know our students! We are super excited and welcome her to our HPES Bulldog Family!
Campus Wide Tutoring Grades 3-5
The staff of Highland Park Elementary is striving to support our students in multiple ways including campus-wide tutoring. To help students who need extra instruction, practice on specific skills, or instruction on a commended level performance we will be providing tutoring/enrichment to students.
To ensure that students are getting instruction targeted for their specific needs, we have created targeted instructional groups. This means that a portion of the day students may be getting instruction from a staff member other than their classroom teacher. Tutoring will take place on Tuesdays, Wednesday's and Thursdays from 7:20-8:15 (Breakfast will still be available to those students who get breakfast). Letters were sent home last week to inform you if your child is attending. Please contact us if you have any questions.
Pajama Story Palooza!
HPES invites you to our Pajama Palooza event, where your child and you can return to school in the evening to hear amazing stories read aloud by HPES staff. More information coming soon, but for now, save the date! It will be taking place on Thursday, March 5 from 6-7 pm.
Field Day
Oratorical Event
Our annual Oratorical Event is around the corner and it's time to see our kids shine! Throughout the month of February, we will be celebrating Black History Month and recognizing African American figures who have made an impact on our lives. Our students will explore various poems, excerpts, and/or speeches by these figures and choose a selection that "speaks" to them which they will then memorize and recite in early March.
*Please note that this is mandatory for 3rd-5th graders at HP. Participating in the Oratorical Competition, on the other hand, is highly encouraged, but not a requirement.
Talent Show
The Talent Show will take place on Friday, March 6, 2020, at 6:30pm.
Types of Talent:
Performing Art: song, dance, poetry reading, instrumental, magic, hula hooping, etc.
Performances must be kept to two minutes in length for solos and three minutes in length for groups.
All students performing MUST ATTEND Tryout/Dress Rehearsal on Monday, March 2, 2020, right after school (3:05-4:30) in the cafeteria.
Forms are due no later than Friday, February 21, 2020. Each student in a group must turn in their OWN copy of this form.

Absence Notes & Tardies
We are working hard to meet our 98% attendance goal, but we still have a lot of students tardy or absent. Unless they are sick, please bring them every day and on time, it is imperative that they’re here at school learning!
We have noticed many students tardy this week, please make sure to bring your child on time to school. Every minute they are late, they are missing valuable instructional time.
If your child had to stay home due to being sick, please make send a doctor note or parent note to school within 3 days after your child returns. Please include the child's first and last name, date of absence, and reason in the note. Our registrar is Miriam Ruvalcaba. Her email is miriam.ruvalcaba@pfisd.net
Volunteers Needed
If you want to help at HPES and just don't know who to talk to, here is your chance! Email Mima Oiesen at miroslava.oiesen@pfisd.net or call us at 512-594-6800 for more information.
Please make sure you complete the volunteer application if you are planning on volunteering or presenting at our campus.
Volunteers must apply two (2) - four (4) weeks before anticipated event to ensure participation in student activities and field trips. A new application must be submitted yearly.
You an access the application at the following
