JANUARY 4, 2023 - NEWSLETTER
SLPHS families,
Happy New Year and snow day! As we begin a new year, we continue our focus on designing and developing personalized learning opportunities for students. To support these efforts, we are planning two hours of early release time on the following Fridays: January 13, February 10, April 14. Please mark your calendars.
During these early release times, our teachers will work in teams to design the assessments they will use to support the design of whole class and individual learning for the next month. The work teachers do during this time will be implemented over the weeks that follow and will inform each student’s personalized learner maps and 4+ year high school plans.
On these early release days, students will be released from classes at 12:40 p.m. Lunch will be served at that time. Students who ride busses and those who choose to stay at school will have opportunities to sign up for activities or continue to work in productive spaces. Buses will run at regular times on these Fridays.
Thank you for supporting these important times for our staff to work and plan together to impact your child’s learning. I assure you this time will further our instructional practices and support the development of their critical academic, life and career skills.
Looking ahead, high school course registration for next year will open January 30 and students will make their course selections for next year by February 24. Watch for more information about online and in-person information sessions to be held during the registration window.
Tomorrow night, you can kick off the year with some great live music. “Live on 65” welcomes Miss Myra and Moonshiners to the Fine Arts Center at Spring Lake Park High School. Tickets are $5 for students/kids and $12 for adults.
As we return to school routines, I am excited to get around to classrooms, especially our construction and trades outdoor classroom (the house we are building in the Able Street parking lot). I also look forward to seeing our students reengaging in our many after school clubs, activities, and athletics throughout the winter season. I appreciate all the ways our students connect and build community at SLPHS.
Have a great week!
