Thank you!
We wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you! It's been an amazing start to the school year, and I hope you enjoy your week off. Thank you for the support, the volunteering, the pies and luncheons, and most of all, thank you for trusting us with educating and caring for your children.
We had a great week at LVMS, and here are a few of the best things I've seen...
The Seasons
Baron de Bastrop
40 Acres Field Trip
Mrs. Evan's ESL group was invited to join thousands of other students across Central Texas to the 40 Acres Field Trip at the University of Texas. The students got to see the campus and also got to watch a UT Women's Basketball game(UT won!).
Coin War!
NJHS is having a Change War throughout next week to support LV Blue Santa Program. Every day during Advisory, a NJHS representative will be by the advisory classes to collect donations of coins. Monday-Thursday, we will collect coins and weigh the total amount of coins collected. On Friday, we will collect dollars. The advisory class with the most amount of money (weight and amount) collected will receive a class party courtesy of NJHS in advisory on January 11th.

Girls Basketball Travels To Blanco
The Lady Viking Middle School ladies had their second away game against Blano on Monday, November 26th.
7th Grade Blue Team worked their offense and defense with many awesome shots, passes, steals, and blocks. They play very well. They tied Blanco 8-8, each one played their hearts out. Emily Caperton scored our 4 points, had 2 steals and 1 block. Sabrina Vaughan had 1 rebound and 1 steal. Anna Magdaleno scored 2 points, had 2 offensive rebounds, 2 defensive rebounds, 3 steals and 4 blocks. Isabelle Johnson had 2 steals. Bethany Rocha-Arbizo scored 2 points and had 1 steal. Sidney Porter had 2 defensive rebounds, 6 steals, and 1 block.
7th Grade Gold Team lost to Blanco 10-42 with excellent shots, plays and defense. Emma Clark scored 4 points, had 2 defensive rebounds, 4 steals and 2 blocks. Kendall Karg got 2 points, 2 defensive rebounds, 2 steals and 1 block. Addison Lockhart scored 4 points, 2 defensive rebounds, 3 steals, and 1 block. Ariana Steele had 1 offensive rebound and 3 defensive rebounds. Cheyenne Hernandez had 1 offensive rebound and 2 steals. Sarah Conine had 1 defensive rebound and 1 steal.
The 8th Grade B Team played a great game against Blanco. The Lady Vikings' defense was very effective and accumulated several steals and turnovers for the Lady Panthers. Maddie Patterson had 3 steals, while Jill Jungman and Kayla Rickels got 2. Lago Vista's offense was great as well with everyone contributing points to the score. Kayla Rickels had 4 points and Kaytlen Rutledge, Ava Girard, Maddie Patterson, and Jill Jungman all had 2 points. The Lady Vikings pushed through to victory winning 12 to 10. Way to go!
Even though the Lady Vikings had over a week break away from basketball, that did not affect the A team at all. The speed and aggressiveness of their press and defense forced an incredible amount of steals and turnovers for Blanco. Crosby Curtis had 12 steals, Sophia Read had 10 steals, Whitney Vaughn had 4 steals, Trinity Bandow had 3 steals, CJ Hood and Olivia Vincent had 2 steals, and Saydie Kassell and Pauline D'ogny had 1 steal. With that immense defensive pressure, hustling down the court, and playing great basketball the Lady Vikings won 50 to 19. Crosby Curtis scored 23 points, Sophia Read scored 20 points, Saydie Kassell scored 4 points, and Trinity Bandow scored 3 points. Job well done, Lago!!

Meet Our Staff! All of our teachers at LVMS are amazing and we want you to get to know them a little bit better! Each week we will interview two staff members(just one this week!) with some basic questions as well as some questions that were requested by students.
Melody Reighley, 6th Grade Language Arts Teacher
Where are you originally from? I am originally from Ohio. I lived there all of my life and moved to Texas about 5 1/2 years ago when my husband took a Director of eCommerce job with a company in Austin, Texas.
What led you to want to be a teacher?
How long have you been in education? Teaching is actually my second career. I had a career in Radio-TV and Journalism right out of college. Then I went back to college several years later and got my master's degree in education and got my Teaching Licensure, Reading Specialist certification, ESL certification and Special Education certification. I have been teaching Language Arts full time for 7 years. However, I have been in education for the past 18 years. I taught 3rd Grade Language Arts in Ohio for three years and this is my 4th year teaching at Lago Vista Middle School. What led me to be a teacher was that I really wanted to do something that would make a difference in the world. I love the quote, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."
Tell us about your family.
My husband, Chris and I met in college and have been married for 26 years. We have two children. Our son, Connor who graduated from Lago Vista High School last year and is now a freshman in college and our daughter, Delaney who is a freshman this year at Lago Vista High School.
What are your favorite hobbies?
My favorite hobbies are reading, writing and horseback riding. I competed in college on the equestrian team and I had horses when I was growing up as well. We still own a horse and board him at a nearby stable. My favorite thing to do is spend time with my family and attend my children's sporting events and activities. Our family loves going to the movies together and spending time outdoors. One day I would love to write children's books.
What did you want to be when you were a kid?
I wanted to be a veterinarian but I always fainted at the sight of needles and blood whenever I would get shots or have my blood drawn as a kid. Now I have to give my horse glucosamine shots every two weeks for his arthritis and sticking him with a needle doesn't bother me at all. So I guess I could have been a vet after all. We have made up for it with all of the pets we have though. A horse, four dogs, a cat, and a turtle.
Why did you choose to live in Lago Vista?
Our family chose Lago Vista as our home when we were relocating to Texas because we wanted to be on the lake and we loved the beautiful hills of Lago Vista. We also liked the fact that the school district was small because we felt that our two children would be able to adjust better to our move in a small school. The move was a really big change for our family but one of our very best decisions!
What is your favorite color?
My favorite color is aquamarine!
