As we begin the new calendar year...

We wanted to thank you once again for all you have done to make the challenges associated with virtual learning more successful thanks to your assistance and cooperation. Although this year continues to be replete with challenges, we sincerely appreciate all you have done behind the scenes to ensure that your children are "arriving for school"--whether that be virtually or in-person-- prepared and ready to learn each day.

We want to emphasize that we will be following the new Exclusively Virtual schedule through January 18th. The school day will begin at VTHS each day at 9:00 am and will conclude at 2:00 pm. It is imperative that each and every student make themselves available for "live" instruction at the start of each period, as attendance will be taken and recorded in Genesis and will count as a "participation" grade. Information about any changes to this schedule will be available in the upcoming weeks.

As always, if you have questions and/or concerns about your child's educational experience, please reach out to your child's teacher first. The teacher is the best one to assist you with questions about specific classes, assignments, and assessments. We truly believe that when the home and school work collaboratively, students receive a quality education. Thank you for being our Partners in Education!

As We Say Goodbye to 2020...

7th Annual Wreaths Across America at Glenwood Ceremony

We are most grateful to Mrs. Justine Van Blarcom who took the time to share this wonderful information with us:

Several of our students and some alumni participated in the 7th annual Wreaths Across America wreath-laying ceremony at the Glenwood Cemetery in Vernon, NJ on Saturday December 19, 2020. The Meistersingers sang the National Anthem acapella: Alumni Connor Blake, Class of 2016, Ryan Spadafina Class of 2020, Reyna Whitty, Devyn Blake, Breanne Kastner, Sebastian Leak, Jeremiah Kerton, Cole Thompson, and Tessa Heidt.

Class of 2020 Alumni Tim Nuzzetti played his drum for the Honor Guard and as each veteran presented their ceremonial wreath. Alumni 2020 Bryce Grier played Taps and did it beautifully. Alumni 2020 Hannah Van Blarcom escorted her father to the Army ceremonial wreath. Mr. John Loggie played the bagpipes at the conclusion of the ceremony.

The following Boy Scouts from two troops also participated: Christopher Wynne Troop 283, Maverick Brendli Troop 283, Rhys Moore Troop 283, Dante Maas Troop 912, James Dorsey Troop 912, and Matthew Okken Troop 912.

Christopher, Maverick, Rhys, and Dante each had a speaking part and James Dorsey posted their troop flag and Matthew Okken escorted a veteran to the Merchant Marine ceremonial wreath.

Mrs. Van Blarcom believed that it was important to share their community service as they all volunteered their own time to be a part of this memorial ceremony for our veterans with the lesson being "Remember, Honor, Teach."

Thank you, Mrs. Van Blarcom!

Kaitlyn Buurman Selected as the VTHS Scholar Athlete!

Congratulations to Kaitlyn Buurman who has been selected to represent Vernon Township High School as this year's Pass It Along Scholar Athlete. Kaitlyn is ranked 9th in the VTHS senior class and is a member of the Varsity Girls Volleyball and Softball Teams. Well done, Kaitlyn! We are very proud of you!

Here's some information about the program:

Pass It Along will be delivering its 36th annual Scholar Athlete (SA) Program. The program honors and celebrates local high school seniors, nominated by their school administrators, who excel in three disciplines: academics, athletics, and above all, service to the community.

The scholar athletes will submit a portfolio of essays, achievement certifications, class standings, school transcripts, and letters of recommendation to the Scholar Athlete Program committee. Nominees will participate in speaking engagements (possibly virtually) with local civic organization/club meetings, and sponsor companies. They will also participate in a Pass It Along Community Service Project, created, planned, and executed collectively by the nominees with the guidance of the Pass It Along staff.

The program will end with a special awards banquet scheduled to be held on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at Perona Farms in Andover, New Jersey. The scholar athletes will be awarded a college scholarship and other prizes as provided by endowments and sponsors.

Master Class with Cate Bottiglione for Mrs. McAloney's Class!

Cate Bottiglione recently visiting Mrs. McAloney's Acting One, Principles of Acting, and Acting Repertory classes to speak about on-camera work, the audition process, and the industry during COVID times. Ms. Bottiglione spoke about some past work she’s done and future material "in the works".

Students in the Acting One and Principles of Acting classes worked on entrances and giving a performance slate, while the Acting Repertory students got to work with real material from Blue Bloods, Comedy Central shows, and voice over commercial scripts, while Cate gave notes on their performances.

We are most appreciative of Ms. Bottiglione's work with our students, thanks to Mrs. McAloney

Ms. Winters' Virtual Field Trip to see a Live Kidney Transplant

Ms. Christina Winters recently worked with the Liberty Science Center to schedule a "virtual" field trip so her students could view a live kidney transplant.

Fourteen students virtually attended a live surgery (kidney transplant) from Morristown Hospital, hosted by the Liberty Science Center and were encouraged to investigate careers in a variety of medical fields.
