Jaguar News
Volume 3, Issue 24- March 6, 2020
Fear of the outbreak of coronavirus has caused people to take extra precautions with their daily habits and hygiene. Unfortunately, that fear has also fueled xenophobic remarks and behaviors, targeting our Asian students and adults. It is important to distinguish medical precautions from racist and discriminatory behaviors. While at Gentry Middle School the health of our community is our primary concern, we are also committed to inclusion and creating a safe environment for our students and adults, free of prejudice and racist behaviors.
The decisions we are making rely heavily on the guidance we are receiving from the district and are intended to protect the health and welfare of our staff, students, and local community. We advise students and adults to wash their hands frequently, use hand sanitizer, cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing, and stay home if they experience any type of cold or flu symptoms. At the same time, we ask you to address any comments or remarks that are hurtful to our community members, and that you rely on our counselors and administrators for questions or concerns.

Although most orders were placed during our Schedule Pick Up Day in August, you can still purchase a yearbook online . Each yearbook is $15 and can be purchased using this link and entering code 40068C. If you are unable to recall if you placed an order at the beginning of the year, please contact the main office at 214-3240. We do NOT purchase any extra yearbooks to sell at the end of the year. Into the Woods, Jr. Performance
"This Tony Award-winning musical includes many of your favorite characters: Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk!), and of course the Witch – all who meet and interact in this whimsical & original show. Step into adventure as their different stories intertwine with each other when they all journey Into the Woods. The musical weaves together the tales of a baker and his wife who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the king's festival; Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk; and Little Red Riding Hood who just wants to bring Grandma a few croissants! When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse and wind up changed forever."
~Casting "Into the Woods" Company
Into the Woods, Jr. will be featured on the Gentry Middle School stage March 12-15! If you would like to join us for a fun evening (or matinee), tickets will be sold at the door for only $5 each. Each evening show (March 12th, 13th and 14th) will begin at 7:00 pm and last about an hour. Our matinee, and final show, will be held on Sunday, March 15th and is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm. This Sunday matinee will be a non-ticketed performance, but donations are always welcome. As always, it is family friendly and promises to be an evening well spent watching Gentry’s finest young actors giving it all that they’ve got. Hope to see you there!

Incoming 8th Grade Students Proof of Immunizations- Don't Delay!
The primary dose of the Tdap and Meningitis vaccines are generally administered to adolescents in the 6th grade (or between the ages of 11-12). It is a state REQUIREMENT that we obtain proof that your student has received the primary dose of both of these vaccinations PRIOR to their first day of 8th grade. If your student will be attending summer school as an incoming 8th grade student they will need to provide this proof PRIOR to starting summer school. Eighth grade students who have NOT provided us with this documentation will not be permitted to attend classes until this documentation is provided.
There is no need to wait! This documentation can be submitted to our nurse any time after your student receives these two vaccines. Providing this proof promptly will ensure that your student will be ready to start the 8th grade without delay.
