What in the world is Beautycounter?


You are probably like most individuals out there who have no idea what Beautycounter is and most likely just assume it's another one of "those" brands that people are going to rope you into. As of July of Last year, I didn't know what Beautycounter was either and frankly, didn't really have time to make room for it in my busy life. I thought, how could another skin care company make it in today's world where we are bombarded with so many options, and they all claim the same thing, right?


Well, that's why I put together this flyer with many of things I saw when I first started to really look into this brand (videos are super short, I promise!). What first caught my attention was their wesbsite. Done beautifully, it provided real information about beauty and cosmetics industry while being chic and classy, it urged me to learn more, go ahead and take a look...www.beautycounter.com. Crazy facts about lack of regulation in the U.S., the abundant use of toxic chemicals, carcingoens, endocrine disruptors and reproductive toxins, all rubbed onto our bodies (our children s bodies!), day in and day out, and no regulation to stop it. What??? I had no idea.


I consider myself health conscious, eat organically when possibly, and avoid processed foods, workout when I can. However, learning that skin, being our largest organ, absorbs almost all that we put into it, left me thinking about ways I could do my part to help my family and buy smarter.


Beautycounter is a content first, products second kind of company focused on advocating for public health as we redefine the entire beauty industry and set our own standard of safety through person-to-person interaction and partnerships with companies like J.Crew.com and Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop.com. In fact, we are a B corporation, which means we have proven to have a triple bottom line, People (doing our part to create a better future), Planet (focusing on sustainability) and then Profits.


I can't unlearn what I have recently learned about skin care products and how little regulations there are! I hope to share with you what I have learned and what alternatives you may have for you and your family!

The Wake Up Call

To get to know your products a little better, go to www.ewg.org to see how yours rate for safety. I'm warning you, this could get addicting...we truly have no idea what we're putting on our bodies every day, over and over.


Only about 10% of the 10,000 chemicals commonly found in personal care products have safety data.


What's worse is the Food and Drug Administration (the agency that regulates cosmetics) allows companies to use chemicals known to be extremely harmful (lead, formaldehyde, and phthalates) in the products we put on our bodies and on our kids every single day, day after day.


The United States has not passed a federal law to regulate the ingredients used in personal care products since 1938.


At Beautycounter, we've banned more than 1,500 ingredients setting a new health and safety standard


All while ensuring our products perform, and that they're as indulgent as any luxe shampoo, lipstick or oil in the market.


It's not easy work, but it’s well worth it.
