Those of us who work here at Greenawalt Library would like to welcome you (or welcome you back) to school. We hope it's going to be a great year and we look forward to helping you.
We try to send out a newsletter every 1-2 months to let you know about upcoming events and things that are new in the library. Sometimes, we also like to remind students and faculty about what we have to offer.
This edition is a mix of both.
Writing Lab
Please e-mail library@nwhealth.edu for an appointment.
White Board
You can use it in study rooms but we ask that you return it to the main library floor so others may use it when you're done. (If you leave it in a study room, then people may assume it's in use or they will have to interrupt the person studying to retrieve the board).
Phone Charger Station
No matter how well you plan, phone batteries die. We've always had chargers you can check out at the information desk but now we have a phone charging station as well. Simply find the connection that works with your phone and let your phone charge. (We hear it's fast but we haven't done studies to test it out.)
There are drawbacks--just like with the chargers you can check out, not every connection style is represented. We think the charging stations assume everyone has a phone purchased in the past three years. You are also responsible for your own phone's safety.
Study Rooms
If you are here for a late night study session and need to eat, please follow library policy. Snacks and covered drinks are fine. Pizza parties and Chinese take-out are not. The study room tables are not meant for meals so they don't get cleaned as if meals were eaten. In addition, the rooms aren't always cleaned at night. Sometimes they're cleaned in the morning and on weekends but 36 hours might go by before they're cleaned. Discarded food containers can create quite a lingering stench when left in small room that long.
So for the sake of your fellow students, please follow library policy and have those meals elsewhere. There are lovely tables right outside the library. Besides, if you're studying that hard, a mental break is always good.
Database Issues
Update
We believe it has to do with log-in issues, and IT and the Library are working diligently to resolve them for you. The library Facebook page will be updated when we have a resolution. Please let us know if you have any questions.
Will the Circle Be Unbroken? by Studs Terkel
"We, as a matter of course, only reflect on death, voice hope and fear, when a dear one is near death, or out of it. Why not speak of it while we're in the flower of good health? How can we envision our life, the one we now experience, unless we recognize that it is finite? In listening to these testimonies, this book is about life and its pricelessness, and of a vision, inchoate though it be, of a better one down here as well as, possibly, up there."-Terkel
Come join us in the library for discussion and snacks. While reading the book is helpful, it is not necessary to participate. We welcome all to come and offer their thoughts on the theme.
